Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He's gone, the sooner we all admit it the less it'll hurt when it is officially announced. It'll definitely hurt our 2017 prospects but long term I don't see it killing our chances at success, will depend how we are compensated.

Certainly not looking promising. He's a wonderful talent but the likely compensation should he leave will soften the blow. Two points to keep in mind are that we have showcased our ability to win without him, and Weid looks the goods. We have to be united - if any player isn't all in, they leave and we move on.

Here is what his manager said:

“We are not in a hurry and we are quite comfortable with where things sit,” Dover said.

“Put it this way — there is no time line on it.

“I have had a discussion with Jesse but we aren’t any further advanced. I was at the footy with ‘Goody’ on the Thursday night watching the Eagles.

“We were able to have a good chat and he gave me some information and I gave him some.

“Jesse will come home and see where his head space is. It is making a decision to be with Melbourne or a request to come home. Nothing has been finalised.”

This Dover bloke, his first name isn't Ben is it?

I don't see how his managers comments change anything. We know his Dad is crook and we know that because of this he is quite understandably thinking he might have to return home to be with his family and provide support. So of course he's gone home and needs to see 'where his head space is at'.

I really feel for him. He is a young fella who loves his family but also clearly loves the dees and his team mates and would be busting to be part of what we are building towards. Tonight's effort by the doggies and the obvious bond between those players will further reinforce this desire.

If he goes back to WA it will be to freo or perhaps WC. Both clubs have problems i reckon. WC have shown a brittleness in the last two finals series and i don't think have the cattle (or perhaps culture) to win a flag in the next few years and Freo is miles off. And at Freo he would have Ross ' my way or the highway' Lyon as coach - a coach that burns out his players and would hardly be a dream coach for a key forward with is low scoring game plan. And neither club will pay much more than we would.

But the pull of family at a difficult time is powerful. I don't envy his choice.

goodwin was far more positive on sen coaches box.

everything seems to be pointing to the fact that jesse is genuinely torn about what to do, and caroline did say that she heard at one stage it was one way, but now she thinks it might be the other, but she genuinely doesn't know.

she's not alone - no one does.

it's all just speculation at this point.

i would rather hogan go if he is torn. last thing we need is him to sign on and in a years time ask to be traded. all in or all out.

If he stays, we have a very good CHF on our hands.

If he goes, we'll get very good compensation for him (first rounder this year & next year imo) - if we draft right, we'll still have our hands on some quality kids to replace him.

Either way, the sun will rise the day after he makes his decision. One man doesn't make a team (he'd sure help it if he stayed), and it takes 22 committed players' to become premiers.

There's nowhere near enough media 'noise' to suggest that Jessie's gone.  The article as a whole doesn't paint that darker picture and, if anything, the writer stresses Jesse's love for the MFC.

Frawley, Scully, Howe- the articles were regular and definite in their conclusions. For hogan though, the journos seem to have no idea what's happening. If they smelt blood in the water they'd do what they always do and go in for the kill.

Boring, DD.

And in other news, there can be no flippancy about Hogan's re-signing. He re-signs and we're a massive, massive chance to win a flag or two in the next decade. Lose him and it's doubtful. Hawthorn when they've been Rougheadless just aren't the same team.

I think you might be right mate. If he goes it's not the end of the world for us. If Freo send pick 3 then we nust nail simple as that.

About as boring as your Prestia love crush you creamed over every 2nd post.

In all seriousness though as much as i have hope he'll re-sign it won't faze me if he leaves for Family reason. It also means Watts and even less extent Weideman will really have to step up next year.

Huellet (sp?) would also hopefully step up.

I gave up on Hogan staying and the Carlton game cemented it. If he goes due to his Dad being terminally ill or even just quite sick then so be it, but the club must get pick three and a bloody good player off Freo for him. Anything less that that pick and either Fyfe or Neale I'd make him stay a Dee.

We need to set the terms and stick fat. Sure think of him and his family but at the end of the day we must get the better deal out of this.

If he does not want to play for us it will be no point forcing him to stay  and I won't miss him. Family reasons may or may not be the prime motivator but I have seen enough of "I'm too good for this club" attitude from him.  He can be a great player but I don't think he believes in us and never has.

OMG!

Hulett needs to step up fast.   Could be, if he can become the forward Rick we need, a silver lining for us.

His heart has not looked to be at MFC this year......good luck playing under boring Lyon.

The more it goes on the more I'm conviced his gone... I have a feeling it will be done this trade period. I wouldn't rule out West Coast, just because they have Kennedy... Rumours are about Darlings on the table, LeCras is all but finished... They obviously need to improve after their efforts this year.

Nothing has changed really, contract talks were put on hold until the end of the season so Jesse could head home and speak with family. It's a massive decision for Jesse, unfortunately will take time. What his manager said is what we already knew.

Hi fellow Demons, Just wanting to pass on a chance encounter I had at the Carlton game, it does not serve as an indicator to whichever path young Jesse chooses but it might fill gaps in for some.....

I bumped into Tom Hogan , Jesse's dad at the G. A really down to earth bloke, we had a chat and I wished him the best. I did not ask him the obvious, felt it would be a betrayal of his trust as he started the conversation with me. The striking thing with Tom is he looks quite old, he had been suffering from some illness - you can tell, I should know, the last 6 years I have battled cancer (hopefully beaten it) and my body is significantly farked as a result of it..We joked about the weather, talked about Perth and there is no doubt that young Jesse loves MFC and has strong bonds. His father was also pretty happy with the club. As has already been stated, it will come down to whether he wants to be home with his Dad and family or stay with his mates at the club and that is it in a nutshell.

Crappy situation both Hogan and the the club are in. If Hogan has a desire to go home and be closer to his family the club would be negligent in not trading him this year.

If we hang on to him for another 12 months and he has a great year we could ask for more at the trade table.  He may even change his mind and decide to stay.  The risk however is we could be hung over a barrel with a trade and Freo have pick 3 this year.  We always get screwed over. If we trade him this year instead of next we also get 12 months development into a kid. The club also needs stability and another 12 months of will he or won't he sign is not ideal.

Really feel for the young man, the club, the supporters and also Goodwin

I see this a little differently to some others on here.

To me if Jesse wants to go home it is now, not at the end of next year.  Therefore he would have to inform us of his wish now so we can start talks on a trade.

The fact that his manager says there is no hurry to his decision may just be to not make the family situation public and give them privacy at this very difficult time.

I think the club is acting exactly as it should in giving him space and time to deal with a family crisis.

I think he will stay and is just not wanting to discuss contract details at this time while he is obviously very emotional.

Again I wish he and his family well over this difficult time.

Yeh pretty rational point of view, although I don't believe the club would be looking to pressure him to making a decision within the next few weeks in anycase, it's just not in line with what has been said by Goodwin and co recently, but now I'm speculating lol

If a player wanted to go home it would be as soon as he made that decision. I just don't see a player deciding he wants to go home, especially with a family crisis atm and saying I will just stay and go next year, when he could get it done now. Makes no sense to me.

Therefore as I said before if he hasn't told us he wants to go home in the next week or so, then I believe he will stay and extend his contract at a time when he is less stressed.

If Jesse asks for a trade then the club will asking for more than 2 first round draft picks.

Half of all first round draft picks are busts or virtual busts and only about 1 in 4 top 5 picks end up being B+ or A grade players (that converts to a 25% chance)  These are facts, not opinions.  On average, 6 - 7 out of all top 10 picks don't get to play 100 games.

There are no guarantees with drafting and it's feasible that we could lose out completely in a 'worse case' scenario.

Then there's the time and development required for any draftee to be factored in as well - another disadvantage.  It takes 3 - 5 years for a draftee to his straps - why should we be placed at a disadvantage?  In my eyes, we should be looking at being placed at an advantage.  He's our asset.

2 x top end draft picks and a good player as a minimum.  And that player they give up can't be a player that wouldn't hurt them if they lost that player.  But the club should push for more.

I think if Jesse stays now, fans will fall in love with him again. If he signs a 5 to 6 year deal, supporters can then invest in Jesse. I hope he does, as swapping clubs may bring him even more pressure and anxiety.

Footy will hopefully take his mind off things. It also helps us that Freo had an ordinary year and there are question marks over whether Lyon can develop players. If you compare them with the talent we have, there's no way Jesse would go there under normal circumstances.

If he stays at Melbourne, he gets the support of his mates in trying times, that he's formed close friendships with. If he moves to Freo, he has to start friendship building all over again. This, in a time where he needs mates by his side the most. Logically it would be the safer decision for his mental health to stay at Melbourne.

Of course, when such emotion is involved in a decision being made, logic can go out the door.

But I hope Jesse stays as I've no doubt his mates love him.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
