I would not mind that at all actualy but If he doesnt get a contract at Melbourne I would expect he will get an offer elsewhere. He isnt a part of our future but he could still be a stopgap for a poor team or a backup forward for a good one. Reunite with Cloke at the Dogs? Even the Hawks might be interested if they lose a forward in the O'Meara/Mitchell aquisitions.

As Roos said: no matter where he is, Hogan will be well paid; he has to decide where he wants to be.

If he goes home, a deal will get done; MelbourneFC moves on (albeit with plenty of salary cap space).

IMO, no player in a successful team gets $1m - consider Geelong and Hawks.

I'm happy if he stays; if he goes, so be it.

Byrnes wanted to be a coach eventually though. Can't see Dawes turning down a law career to be a VFL player.

Id rather not get into trade talk/drivel/debate about Hogan. McGovern and Fyfe are better players than Hogan at this point in time. 

If I was the list manager at the Eagles, the last thing I would do is trade a player as unique as McGovern.

I suspect both Freo and WC are detirmined not to let any player of realised value go in any trade. And if MFC plays as hard as they should  it may end up a huge stalemate. Other clubs may need to get involved to get a Hogan deal done.

In earlier posts you've eluded to "fixing it over the pre season", as in 1 pre season, whats that based on? On 'Open Mike' last week Matthew Lloyd recalled how bad his kicking for goal was early in his career.  Sheedy told him not to go into the rooms at the half-time break, but instead practice kicking for goal.  He was incredibly embarrassed and reached a point that year where he didn't want to have shots at goal.  He didn't want the ball in his hands or the responsibility. 

He famously fixed his goal-kicking in one off-season to be one of the best we've seen.

He reiterated one summer.

If Hogan goes we should look into James Stewart from GWS.  Surely we have more to bargin with then Carlton & Collingwood.

Although a Weideman, Stewart FF/CHF combo does make me vomit in my mouth a little.

Well Hogan doesn't believe he has kicking problem. He said it himself. Blind Freddy is clearly wrong.

Goodwin was pretty confident on friday night on SEN that Jesse would stay.

Said he had spoken to him recently and had a good relationship with him and that Jesse loved the club and the players.

Said he would be pretty shocked and surprised if he wanted to leave.

While not a signature, that is a pretty positive outlook.

Hope he is right.

We need to keep a big name player and show the other clubs that players want to play with us.

Well said, Redleg.  Hits the nail on the head for me.  I think with Jesse being in WA, and West Coke coming out and making comments about their interest in him (which I think is still rather unprofessional, considering he still has 12 months on his contract to run), it has blown things up a little.  Nothing would have changed behind the scenes and I believe that he loves the club and has a good relationship with the coaches, staff and players as well.

reminds me a bit of the Tommy McDonald situation, lots of talk in the media that he was off to the Swans and the club was consistently very confident he'd say and he did.

On AFL 360 last week Goody was pretty casual about the situation and said Hogan's contracted for next season and if he needs more time and negotiations go into 2017 then so be it. 

I don't think much of the comments from West Coast. I would imagine they'd be in contact with the manager's of all of the young guns who have made the move over east. I don't think their forward line is the issue and would suggest Cripps of Carlton would be a much better fit as they need midfielders.

I really hope you're right. 

Jesse has been a bit up and down this but overall  his performance has him in the top 2 or 3 young key forwards in the comp and he can improve. 

I don't like this new era of massive player movement and loyalty and contracts meaning next to nothing. It would be really nice to be able to support a similar looking, improving best 22 for a few years. And considering the excellent job our club has done in keeping key players this year Jesse is the final piece of the puzzle. I really hope he stays and all this WC stuff is just media noise.

Hogan going back to WA is being overrated. He has already signed an extension with the club so you think he would be more homesick as a 20yr old rather a 22yr old.

This isn't his first opportunity to leave. 

If his father does have cancer then that may change his circumstances but I doubt he is leaving just to go back to WA

When we get into big finals it's very useful to have match-winners who can turn the game by their own actions.  We've seen it already with Cameron and Bontempelli, and of course there's Franklin and Dangerfield.

They are rare beasts but Hogan can be one of them.  When I look at our list I see a lot of talent coming through but few game breakers.  In the right circumstance big Max could do it, maybe Petracca can grow into this, Jayden Hunt is another slim possibility.  That's why it's very desirable to retain Jesse.

Goodwins comments here are exactly what I was told from another senior person at MFC.  This is all true.  All that is missing is the reason for Hogan's current stay in WA.  His critically ill father has the potential of stuffing this up for us, but the truth is that it is extremely unlikely Hogan will not re-sign with the Dees.

There's a great example of it happening and no doubt it can happen again, i really hope Hogan can fix this part of his game, but at the moment is has to be a concern and should be factored in to any contract negotiations. As a side note I don't believe age has anything to do with it.

Joe Danniher could also benifit from some extra sessions.
