Jesse is far more valuable if he doesn't stage nor stop playing when he thinks he should get a free.  Its part of life for a power forward.  We need him to keep making second and third efforts.

Hopefully, staging is another thing that Jesse gets out of his game over the summer as it is happening too often. 

I totally agree with your assessment. The best power forwards didn't stage for free kicks they stood up against the pulling and tugging and simply got on with the job. He is a bit of a flopper, I hate seeing opposition players do it and I hate seeing our players do it.

Two things I want him to work on over the summer: his kicking routine for goal and getting penetration over 40m, and standing up to opponents and their tactics. He's a powerful guy, he just didn't seem to be using it in the second half of the year.

Yes, I know he has a year to run but by saying he would wait for end of the season and see if we improved he/his manager created the expectation of a decision (either way) about now.  So, I am disappointed he is heading off for the break without fulfilling that expectation.  What is he now waiting for?

There were some strong reports in the media a month ago that he had committed to the club and contract talks were happening.  Then a week ago the media reports were he is wavering.  Now he heads to Perth and it doesn't sound like there is much talking happening.  What has changed?

The fact that he has head back to Perth isn't anything other than returning home to family and friends after the season finishes, not as if he isn't able to be contacted by his manager or the club.

I agree that if we were to lose him it needs to be based on this year rather than next to ensure the best return from Freo, but I haven't given up on him.

Also think the main reason he put off contract talks was to wait and see what the new wage agreement looked like, if anything that being dragged out by the AFL is more the issue for Hogan rather than stay or go home factors. He has a contract for next year, his manager wants to see what that looks like before negotiating a contract.

People need to chill, he will be a great player, his kicking will get sorted out, and lets hope its him kicking goals for the MFC.

I'm suprised no'one has mentioned Roos' comments on Open Mike last night... Something along the lines of Melbourne along with the rest of the comp face a challenge keeping interstate players and IF Jesse were to leave it would be based on family & where he wants to live not because of the direction of the footy club. Didn't feel me with great confidence

He also said that presently there were no indications that Jesse would leave. It is a 50/50 issue and I don't think we have anything to be concerned about as of yet. If he hasn't signed before the 2017 season begins, that is when we should start to be worried.

I'd love Hogan to stay, but only if he changes how he plays.

Whether it be because of injury or whatever, his lack of leading in the second half of the year was one of my biggest frustrations.

I think the two go hand in hand. When he commits, he'll look far better on the field I think. More confidence and a better understanding with teammates, what the coaches want and his own way of playing.

It's been mentioned on here a few times but there are reasons why the family pull would be a bit stronger for Jesse than it might other interstate players, i still think given our list that Jesse will sign on and i think it'll happen sooner rather than later but he wouldn't be human if leaving wasn't tempting. 

I don't buy the idea that he's constantly changing his mind and the club is getting frustrated, i reckon Caro is way off the mark with that, i reckon Jesse would be pretty open with the club but nothings changed, there is a strong pull home and Jesse has a decision to make, but all the talk coming from Jesse and his manager publicly seems to be quite positive, the club is clearly on the improve and i recckon in a much better position than Fremantle going forward and i reckon we're a huge chance to retain him. 

if he wants to leave we'll get ourselves a couple of really good picks and a player. and still have Sammy Weiderman and Watts so it won't be the end of the world.

No I disagree - he needs to make a decision before the trade period.  He'll be out of contract next year so we'll have far less bargaining power because there's only 2 teams in WA.  And Freo, if that's his destination will finish higher, with Fyfe, Bennell and McCarthy etc available.  They weren't trying to win in 2016 - the R22 result is a pointer to what's to come.

I'd far prefer he stays and far prefer him to any of these players, but if he wants to go then pick 3 puts us right in the frame for Mitchell, O'Meara, Prestia etc.

I have mentioned on here before my best friend is quite good friends with Jesse and the info i've had for a long time is that he loves Melbourne (the city) and the club and loves the direction but there are factors in WA that are a consideration, i am 90% sure he'll stay and that that'll be locked away before round 1, but until the ink is dry on his contract noone can be certain. 

i think the club is now in a position where losing Jesse wouldn't set us back 5 years, it'd be a dent but i think we could cover it.

I'd prefer to keep Hogan but Hogan for Fyfe would be the best possible outcome for us, I'd think. Even with the potential long term negative effects of his leg injuries.

The 'for family reasons' reason is just a polite catch all excuse for many players going home. May be true or not but useful for snuffing out prickly questions on real intent for some.
