Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Young side who look very, very tired, one too many tall blokes, too many players who should be better and have gone missing (Tyson, Garlett, Lumumba) and a ground we play very poorly (note how often St Kilda have basically hit the wing boundary and then spread back across and opened us back up).

We have some good players but they are inexperienced. We also rely on them a lot for speed so on a track like this when they are down we could never win. They'll learn from this, as will our coaching staff. Too many young players can't come up week after week.

Lets not get all dramatic. It's a tough competition and we will continue moving in the right direction.

well said.  first level headed post so far.  Picket Fence, you were on the money mate

Were people expecting Truck to just come in and dominate? I was excited to see him play and was a tad disappointed with his game but overall it was a decent debut

Petracca showed he has the skill. the game was a bit to quick for him at times but his touch was A grade. not worried at all.

people get sucked in by media hype far too easily.

Side note: Petracca super underwhelming

Petracca was'n't great, but certainly no worse than probably half his more experienced team-mates.  A bit churlish to put a first gamer in the gun after a super underwhelming team performance.

I see that as a problem with the high press today.  The coaches and players are on record as saying we are pushing higher up the ground to force turnovers in our half - it broke down big time today and allowed the Saints way too much space.  Full credit to them as it was clearly a plan of theirs and we didn't do enough to stop it.

Commentators had it pegged in 1st quarter defence set too high, too easy for them to get in behind us

Saints knew it too and they exploited it.  Well played to them.

It's a learning experience for the boys and shows how crucial it is to play your role 100% of the time.  A quick team like the Saints showed us what can happen when we don't.

Seriously?

yes seriously.

of course there were blokes with bad days at the office but our game plan was totally carved up and we didn't react to that. that makes players reactionary. has happened to me in the past. when you are being told to do one thing that is clearly not working it makes it very hard and you just end up chasing jumpers.

Roos is really a very non reactive match day coach. out of stubborness or just lack of ability, i dont know , but his refusal to adapt to the game unfolding in front of him has cost us many times now.

im not sure the players were to blame today. the game plan got carved up and without leadership from the box it left them unable to adapt and the carnage which ensued made it hard for the side to stay in the game.

an opposition side picking apart a game plan will make players look slow and reactionary. im not so keen to put all of this on the players to be honest. of course ill agree some more on field leadership will help but in a nutshell our game plan has been picked apart and no answers were provided to the players. hence so many lefft in "no mans land" on turnovers

Good post.

All of that plus we were physically dominated today. Saints have a stronger on ball brigade than us and their clearing out of congestion was impressive.

I hope that Paul Roos doesn't mention how good we were in the NAB cup,I suppose any excuse is better than none!!!!!

If he says we looked tired again, like he did after Round 2, I'll throw a brick through the screen.

How about we put at the end of that sentence 'but we are 17 weeks away from September and we have a team ahead of us we haven't beaten in nearly ten years to come up against at a venue where we have won once in 23 attempts so we are mostly aiming at getting that monkey off the back'?  If he had said that, Jack would have answered the question but would also have given an actual reflection on where we are at and where the season is at. The fact that that rider wasn't attached to that sentence says A LOT!
We should be aiming at finals yes, but the season is a marathon.

I understand where you're coming from and I don't want to be a parrot Flaubert, but my sentiment was that what Jack said in no way contributed to this loss. It may have been indicative of a mind-set but I doubt it. We're instituting a high risk, high pressure game-plan and will always be scored on out the back - such that should the intensity, composure or disposal skills drop a fraction we're in trouble. Is that drop off borne of an arrogance or complacency encapsulated by Viney's statement or perhaps the difficulty in maintaining such a game-style with a young and inexperienced team?

His disposal was at 66% or there about. Not good enough but for a debut game it was not too bad.

And plenty of us in the stands, but not in the Coaches' box. We appear to lack a plan B.

When you see something happening, that if you let it continue you will lose, surely you at least try something else.

I am fearful we have an arrogant Coaching box, that will just blame the players, if they don't win under the same plan.

We could have thrown in a sweeper, tagged Riewoldt, or played  man on man, even for a while, just to change things up, but not one change.

It was the same in the Bombers' game.

Yes we played poorly and yes the Saints worked harder and played better and yes our skills were once again deplorable, but the Coaching was pathetic.

I hope for our future that this is not the way Goodwin will coach, not the plan, but the refusal to adapt to a game, where the plan isn't working.

Roo's had to play Petracca after all the hype that has gone on.

OK,he has had his 1s't game, will learn what playing in the 1'st is all about now,

No amount of games at Casey will show him what it's like on the big stage.

He will be better off for it.

Petracca was good relative to his experience. First game in 1.5 years. Zero AFL experience. Not even a full VFL game experience.

Came in and did some nice things, won some hard ball, and delivered some good passes.

He was far more involved and had more score involvements than Harmes, Kent and Garlett combined.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
