Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am happy for jones to have it this year and probably next. Viney will be in leadership group this year, VC next year.

Will be interesting to see where Brayshaw and a few others are placed in terms of leadership over the next 2-3 years. We might actually have a variety of real leaders in the mix for capt and VC positions.

Viney has been thereabouts for a few years, Brayshaw at least another two years.

But if what you hear is correct and the leaders in 5 years time are Viney, Brayshaw, hogan, etc that is a very good thing.

Does he have the time to be an effective captain, keeping in mind his surfing commitments, etc?

Still amazed that some people on here used that as a reason why they didn't think he should be captain.

Age story about Captaincy and Leadership Group: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/melbourne-announce-nathan-jones-as-captain-again-for-2016-20151210-gll01t.html

Roos said that it had "been a pleasure to watch" Jones' evolution into a selfless player...'.

'...he said the composition of the club's leadership group remained up in the air, and would not be determined for certain until after the commencement of the NAB Challenge...Roos said the reason was to ensure that on-field performance, and not only training attitude, was taken into account when considering who would lead the club. He said that some of the club's new players could "absolutely" be included in the group'.

'...Jones nominated defender Tom McDonald and midfielder Jack Viney as two players who could be in line for ascension to the leadership group next season. Lynden Dunn, Daniel Cross, Heritier Lumumba, Chris Dawes and Grimes were the others in the group this year'.

With Cross gone, I would imagine the Club would not want too much change in the LG so you would think Jones, Dunn and Lumumba will continue.  Given what Roos said above about on-field performance I suspect that Grimes and Dawes will not get another leadership gig.

Tom Mc deserves a spot as does Viney.  That makes 5.  The club may stop with that rather than go to 6.  Other 'new players' be it Vand, Hogan or Brayshaw, I feel need another year or two playing AFL before the additional responsibility - not because they couldn't handle it but simply to give them another year or two to settle in and enjoy themselves.

Where?

"Reigning best and fairest winner Bernie Vince has suffered a minor setback after breaking his little finger at training last week.

Vince was spotted with a splint on his finger at the club's training base at AAMI Park on Friday morning.

"Unfortunately he had an incident last week. He'd actually just made it back into the main group and then busted his little finger," Jones said.

"He's got a little pin in there. It's pretty standard, most boys at this time of year might suffer something minor like that, but that's not going to affect him in terms of weights and running.

"A little bit of (an interruption) with ball work for a few weeks, but he'll be sweet."

Most times I cringe when threads get brought up like you have just done, HT, but this time I'm quite satisfied with how I read the state of play back then.  I'll claim it as some of my best analysis to date!

I'll read my "$cully is staying" posts to remind myself I'm not a total smart arse...!

In terms of leadership group it makes sense that T-Mac and Viney come on board.

Removing two players - ie: Dawes and Grimes - is easier on them than just dropping one and based on last year both can't be guaranteed games.

The one player who has now done his time and shown great leadership (despite being a bit of a rascal) that has so far been overlooked is Vince.

But it can't all be based on B&F count - I'm sure the club will determine who is appropriate.

We have a great skipper.  I love him.  Tough as nails, loyal, reliable...we have a champion on our hands and if we can make some noise in the next few years having him lead us is going to be the icing on the cake.  Not a football fan in the country would begrudge him success.  As for all the other talk about leadership groups and 'what not'...i reckon its all a bit overrated this leadership group stuff (bear in mind you have a bunch of penis photographing, sexually debauched, dwarf burning idiots down there at the Saints making Jake Carlisle work hard to earn 'their' 'respect' - outrageous!   Clowns.  Forget about all this leadership group buuuullllllshhhiiit...a captain, vice captain, deputy vice-captain...Bounce the ball thanks umpire we're all set!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
