Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Parish seems very similar to Tom Scully....

http://afldraftinfo.blogspot.com.au/2009/10/tom-scully-dandenong-stingraysvic-metro.html

I always thought that Tom was too skinny for a midfield roll.

In his first few years he kept getting pushed off the ball and was unable to shrug tackles.

This should be a red flag to the football department.

I don't think they are similar. Scully only had/has one pace, has doesn't tread water and he doesn't see the bigger picture, he is a selfish football play, not the greatest kick (because he doesn't slow down, has no poise), whereas Parish is an intuitive footballer, sees the bigger picture and will often lay a tackle, bounce up and receive the hands off, if you watch Parish play, you will see he has a great understanding of the game.

I must be missing something but I simply can't understand how the club would prefer Parish to Francis. There are 2 highlights reels on Francis and in one of them he plays as a strong, tall mid, and goes forward. He kicks 4 goals, a couple involving 50m plus kicks. The next segment shows him defending, taking mark after mark. Again, disposal impeccable.

I notice in the AFL highlights reel, in which he talks very movingly about the death of his brother, he says that Brendon Goddard is a role model.

I was quite unaware of this, but Goddard is the very bloke I thought of when watching the first reel.

Francis is a mature kid, who I reckon would play many games in his first season and 200 overall. To me, he represents much more of what the club needs, than Parish. Has anyone else a view about this?

I mentioned the folly of relying on highlight reels and maintain if you were to go by highlight reels then Francis is a no brainer. Hence the reason that you take the highlight reel with liberal dose of salt.

Whispering Jack who obviously see a bit of underage footy said that Francis goes missing/ is inconsistent whereas Parish is in, under and about for the whole game/s. This is something that you can never ascertain just from watching highlight reels.

Again, only relying on highlight reels, Parish does not miss a single target in the footage shown whereas Scully's footskills ( or lack thereof) were evident even in the "best of" footage.

I wish I could find the actual quote but Roos is on record saying he has very little to do with draft selections. He says he has people to do that for him and whilst the whole coaching panel may discuss what the obvious needs and priorities are for the team ( ie mids - inside, outside, goal kicking ) I was left with the impression that if we wanted mids with certain traits Roos defers to the recruiting guys to pick the best available.

Which is exactly what I was saying. Roos wouldn't be picking certain players, but he would definitely have a checklist of traits he requires which the recruiting team then base their recommendations on.

The big question mark from me is his hair.

He clearly uses a lot of conditioner. I'm very worried he'll end up taking a hair modelling contract and leaving us in the lurch.

Actually I noticed that through out his junior year at TAC his hair was immaculate. As soon as it was mentioned that he was likely to be picked up by us his hairy ..well...became messy. I don't like the look of that and I wouldn't draft him as I am afraid that after a two seasons he would seek a transfer to Essendon to get hair styling tips from Hurley.

That is correct. Scully had/has poor skills by foot.

Check out his game against SA in 2009.

Parish's highlights show that he has above average foot skills.

thanks. hwfua looked real skinny and half the size of parish. yet he was able to bulk up a bit by r1, so i don't see why parish can't

Fair enough

That being said i have no knowledge of whether this year's top 10 is stronger or weaker than last year's or next year's.

It may be hard to to compare because this year's best 10 players are playing in a weaker competition (i.e. shallower).

Halcyon days of Demonland those days.

I posted my concerns about the hair on Facebook last week. It certainly looms as a major issue in respect of the difficult decision the recruiting team is faced with over the next few weeks.

My solution was that if we take him with pick #3 then Josh Mahoney's first task should be (preferably before they leave Adelaide after draft night) to take him to a barber for a #3 haircut.

Problem solved.

[PS: I've subsequently discovered that if we bid #3 for say Callum Mills and force Sydney to take that player in response to our bid, then our pick would be #4 and in that event, the blades to be used for the haircut would be #4.]

Barber seems a bit hipster to me... I vote Todd and Jack give him the military buzz cut as an initiation.

This is the only sensible course of action.

We cannot have this possible defection to the lucrative hair product industry hanging over a star recruit's head from day 1.

Additionally, Hogan's set-shot setup indicates that he also loves his hair. Don't want any hair-related conflicts in our playing group.

Much better to take WJ's recommended actions and nip this possibly explosive issue in the bud.

I think this negative hair talk should cease. We should embrace the locks if picked. Who knows.... we may even land a new $500,000 - $1million sponsor in Decore or Sunsilk.....positive thoughts people. Become a destination club and entice the likes of Sloane, Mundy, Maric. Embrace the locks people.

#embracethelocks shall trend!

He will end up with a mullet if he gets any kind of cut in Adelaide...

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
