Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The longer the AFL is around, the less these VFL records mean to me. Sure they're great, and they're far more meaningful than any of the other state records; but there's still a large part of me that feels we have no premierships.

Does that make me a bad Melbourne supporter?

It means nothing to me, I want to see a premiership for myself.

Ditto. To me, stuff that happened decades before I was born makes for interesting history, but that's it. It's definitely not worthy of bragging rights. We're currently desperately irrelevant while the Hawks are cleaning up. I find it cringe-worthy when people bring it up as if it matters.

Reckon if I tried to lord this over my Hawthorn supporting mates I'd have to perform CPR on them after they died laughing.

So over hearing about our History to be honest. Watching All the build up to grand final and the celebrations afterwards just makes me crave it even more.

Interstingly Nathan Jones went to his first afl grand final and he put a pic up on instagram only for Christian Petracca to write "we will get their one day boss' and chunk replied with 'you know it, just wanted to get an idea'..

I reckon Jonez would have come out from that fired up after seeing his mate Frawley win a flag before him.

I find that quite surprising!

I would have thought every club would get its players (at least its leadership team) to as many GF as possible.

Partly to make them hungry and partly for them to experience the atmosphere and hype so that when they get there is a bit of familiarity.

Not to mention they might learn a thing or two about finals football.

WCE looked a bit overwhelmed yesterday...many of them had never been to a GF either!

At least we got Jesse there yesterday in the 1st motorcade!

As one of the older brigade here, it's not ancient history. I still remember the five grand finals I attended (57-60, 64) )vividly. Probably more clearly than what I had for breakfast today.

I just hope that all of you who were born after that golden era get to enjoy the same feeling. At least you've got time on your side.

I doubt I'll ever get to see another one.

Great we have the history but facts are Hawks have won 13 flags since 1961 vs us 1 in 64....We Have played in 2 GF since & flogged in both, 2 periods of success with Nortthey & Daniher.....

I'm 51 & my best mate has seen 11 flags ....

Enough said!

thanks hoges, i wasn't aware of any of that

There's a good story about Tommy Hafey when he was at Richmond and what he would say to players or administrators who talked about how great things were in the 20's and 30's.
He would always drum into them the past doesn't matter. The only thing the Tiges needed to worry about was today and the future. It got to the point where the players, sick of hearing about the 'glorious past', decided to shut up the old codgers at the club and they went out and made some history for themselves.
The first step we need to take is to acknowledge that we have been a very bad club for a very long time. There have been slight patches of relief but 2006-2015 has been fairly reflective of where we have been at in a historical context from 1965 onwards.
It was Cameron Schwab 101 to go on about our history as it distracted us from the absolute shambles the club was. It was gutting to see the Hawks finally move past us on the most premierships won ladder but I hope it's instructive for our boys on what they need to focus on. No more nostalgia. Let's make our own history!

Our glories are now over half a century ago.

It is time to create some new ones.

I am living for the future as we did not even care to look after the flags we won.

The new glories are five years away but lets win 12 games next year that will be a great start for me.

Would be good to put a little more distance between us and the pack.

I mean, really, a couple of years from now all the current top teams will be mass-retiring and sliding down the ladder Geelong style, and the other 'rebuilders' all look stuck in a perpetual malaise Carlton/Brisbane style.

It's really just us and the Bulldogs going toe to toe from about 2017 on.

Im kinda over telling people how many premiership we have won over our 150 year history even though we haven't won one on over 50 years.

The worst thing is the Hawks have won as many as us in those 50 years.

It's time to put our history in a leather case and seal it up

Respect it but move on.....Those ffcuking Hawks have now won 13 flags....12 of which i have seen...

They are officially better than us now...Fact...we could hide before but not now.

We the MFC have been overtaken by the club who admired us the most in the 1950's....They grew...we stagnated....Our players become their staff!!

only one way to do something about it

Now that IS a horrifying stat. At least I've only had to sit through four of them. That was more than enough for me.

In general footy conversation when someone asks how many premierships have Melbourne won I reply, none. This is a new competition to the VFL, we won VFL flags not AFL. In 1990 when the AFL was created, is what matters now, we were a legendary VFL club, hopefully we can be a legendary AFL one too.

Exactly. We're actually one of the worst-performing teams over the course of the whole AFL era.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
