Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

was more thinking of players they have been bringing in recently

take frawley at 2.5m over 4 years. if that was backended to fit him in then his salary now starts to increase. there are probably others too

Mitchell Hodge & co will take pay cuts to keep the glory rolling

They are already set up

let me put it another way

clubs can be, net front-enders, net back-enders or pretty much neither

a club like melb with youth and inexperience would most likely be net front-ended to avoid over-payment of players and to build a war chest

a club like the dorks with older players, more stars ans success would be most likely be net back-enders to avoid exceeding the cap and to free up some space for mature trades

i don't doubt hawks players are taking below their worth but there is only so far you can go with this and keep so many top players happy and free up some cap space

anyway that is how i see it and that is what makes me think a lot of that 800k will evaporate quickly to other back-ended contracts

I wonder when the Demons won three in a row (twice) if other clubs supporters were whining about "equalisation"?

Pre-internet, probably spoke about at the pub.

It's all about the build. Feels like we're starting to put the ingredients together to have another tilt at the top in a couple of years time...

One of the problems with front ending is that you get a decent player that isn't in the top 25 paid players but becomes a free agent - therefore the compensation is skewed...

Credit to Hawthorn.

Would love a Hawks v Port GF next year.

That would make things interesting.

You are on the wrong board if one of your teams in next year's GF is not Melbourne.

no, not the compensation, that is not affected and a different calculation

the only diff is that can make a restricted FA (8 years) into an unrestricted FA therefore no option to match offer

in reality being an ufa or a rfa doesn't seem to matter so far, although it may in the case of danger

frawley was a rfa who became an ufa because of this rule and it didn't affect compo

anyways, the afl could easily fix this anomaly by using the average pa value of the contract if they wished to

I thought the VFL powers that be brought in country zoning in the late 60's expressly to deal with us. Until then Jim Cardwell used to pick the eyes out of the country leagues and Tasy, bring the recruits down to the big smoke and offer them an MCC membership and the deal was done. We got the Shyte zones and the agreement to rotate zones never happened because the Dawks, Carlton and North would not budge on their very productive zones. We got dudded earlier on metropolitan zones as well. We were dealt with then, now it's time to deal with Hawthorn.

Took the words right off my keyboard.

You're exactly right on both the introduction of country zones and the failure, especially by Carlton who won the Bendigo League, to allow them to rotate.

The zones were supposed to change their alliance every four years. Never did once Carlton, who were very influential in VFL circles had their paws on Bendigo.

Can you imagine kiddies?

We once had an empire like Hawthorn's and were hated even more so!

Firstly well done to Hawks as they showed what a well run, coached, trade, development & cultured club can achieve....

But this is not what the afl wants, domination by one or 2 clubs.....

In the last 15 yrs 12 premierships by 4 clubs .. Hawks 4, cats 3, lions 3, swans 2 not to mention Hawks 5 gf, cats 4 gf, lions 4 gf & swans 4 gf...

Can't see equalisation here.......

The last two seasons have shown that equalization is working.

Credit to the AFL here.

I think the Hawthorn triple premiership era was massively helped by the watered down talent pool thanks to the arrival of GWS and Gold Coast.

Now things are evening out, and we have two of the longest premiership droughts broken in consecutive years.

Heres hoping it continues.

However employed Craig Cameron at GWS is trying to ensure they never reach their full potential.

However is employed by the AFL, if he don't understand Polo then he'll never reach his potential !

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
