Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Makes for interesting reading from one analytical source.

What's with the infatuation over complete duds ?? Stop speculating 'potential' and making excuses - and rating our team and its list as third-world citizens.

Howe is a Seniors regular, so we'll ask for one back right ?? Or a deal slightly better than or equal to their second-round pick.

Not this nobody, please. He's delisted free agent scraps at best.

How anyone can assess Ben Kennedy's ability to make it at AFL level based on his 2015 year is beyond me. He played AFL 5 games, 2 as the SUB and was in no way give an extended run at senior footy. 2 in a row is the most he played and then he proceeded to go back and play good footy at VFL level, not bad for a 20 year old.

Have you actually watched him play TT or just going off the brief write ups from SEN? Most of whcih were positive, especially at VFL level.

If any trade is Kennedy for Howe, I think it's safe to assume another pick will also come our way.

I think it's also fair to wait and look at our trading on a whole at the end of the period eg. what's come in for what we've shipped out.

We lack run big time, and the three players we've probably been heaviest linked to are Kennedy, Melksham & Bugg, all of whom help address this issue.

If at the end of trade period we've brought those three in, along with improve our draft position for the cost of say Howe, Grimes & Toumpas then it would be a win for me. But time will tell.

Isn't Toumpas the name being associated with this trade, not Howe?

The Toump showed a few glimpses this year, but in arguably his best game yet for us his direct opponent was BOG & kicked the winning goal with seconds left....... Looks like Milkshake will get his role moving forward & we're looking to give him a fresh start back home & will pick up a depth player at best for him. Not surprising really, the kid has really struggled to acclimatize to Melbourne city & the AFL thus far.

If this trade does go down, fair to say MFC have cut their losses here and pick 4 was a bust for us? I think it does. Really can't see him cracking into Ports midfield given Newton couldn't.

Kennedy will not help with run.

He's small, but that doesn't mean he's super fast. Thinking this is akin to believing that Nev Jetta would be a small forward, when it was abundantly clear he wasn't from day 1.

He'd be OK as an inside mid, but we've just got rid of two of those types.

No for me.

Which side of the argument are you on again ? A decent VFL player - great, can't wait.

In all seriousness I'm not against picking this kid up but hopefully he comes in the form of a free agent on cheap coin. Or BA simply got his Kennedys mixed up.

Kennedys who change clubs seem to have a pretty amazing record of success....not that a name means anything in itself......unless maybe it was Josh :-))

He was in the Gand Final sprint last year.

We have enough good VFL level players.

Not saying he won't be a good pick up but I would be more interested in the reasons he couldn't break into the senior team on the back of good form.

He may not be in line to run the 100m at Rio next year, but Kennedy is quick and would easily be one of the best outside options we have at the club (not that that's saying a lot to be fair).

Much quicker then Nev Jetta.

So by your logic unless a 20 year old kid is playing every game in the seniors dominating then he's no good?

Collingwood's midfield is much deeper then ours, add to that they have Blair, Eliiott & Fasolo as small forwards, the kid has had less opportunities at senior level then he would have at Melbourne.

All he can do is play well at the level he was selected to, and he's done that on a weekly basis with Collingwood's VFL side. Josh Kennedy struggled at times during his limited chances at Hawthorn also before moving to Sydney. I guess you would have been against Melbourne recruiting him then?

Wait, what ?

I couldn't care less about dominating. How about he gets a regular game first ?

As for the second point, we beat that deeper midfield during the year, so I'm not really wowed by it.

Melksham looks pretty good against this guy.

Wait, what ?

I couldn't care less about dominating. How about he gets a regular game first ? Again, Josh Kennedy wasn't getting a regular game at Hawthorn, Sam Jacobs at Carlton, Matthew Bishop at Melbourne, there's many examples over the years. Doesn't mean they're no good.

As for the second point, we beat that deeper midfield during the year, so I'm not really wowed by it. We also beat the Bulldogs, Gold Coast & GWS, all of which have deeper midfields then us. Comes down to who plays best on the day. Queens Birthday they beat us, with Kennedy playing I might add.

Melksham looks pretty good against this guy. Not for mine. But even then, on his own I don't mind Melksham. What I do mind is 4 years & WADA.

There's no question that a quality small man will always be welcome at any club but Paul Roos has also indicated a liking towards recruiting bigger sized midfielders and that is anyway the trend in AFL football in recent times.

We already have a few smalls like Dean Kent and JKH (and I would add Jeff Garlett even though listed at 180cm) so Ben Kennedy would add to our list of smalls.

While that's inherently not a problem, I must say that I've quietly harboured this hope that Dion Prestia hasn't been totally ruled out of contention if a suitable trade could be arranged with the Suns. However, recruiting Kennedy might also be a sign that this is unlikely to happen, at least in the forthcoming trade period.

I'm all for it. It's a bit similar to the Melksham case in my opinion. We're not necessarily recruiting players that can slide straight into our best 22 but instead depth players with more upside than your everyday Rohan Bail.

Kennedy would be handy backup in case Kent were to go down again.

I agree. We need to improve the list, which means recruiting the likes of Melksham and Kennedy without giving away players that are currently in our best 25 or so.

Not every recruit will be a 'big fish', but it'd be great to land a couple this draft period: Prestia, O'Meara and/or J Kennedy.

Kennedy? Ew. We really don't need more fringe players. He couldn't get a game for a poor side that was going with youth. He would be in and out of our team like Michie, Newton, Riley were, plus hes tiny. Did well at VFL level as an inside mid, no way he can play that role at AFL level imo. No thanks.

I rate Kennedy very highly, he's got pace and good skills, really good footy smarts and a hard edge, he can play on ball or as a very dangerous half forward, get Macca to work on him and we'll see a very good partner for Dean kent in 2016

Pick 19 in the same year as Toumpas (pick 4!!!), 2012 draft year is also looking like a really deep year, lots of great players already performing from this draft.

So far Kennedy's development has been so much better than the toump, people need to remember we aren't going to get much for Toumpas anymore, at best we might get a late 2nd rounder. I think Kennedy is around the right mark, he may have deficiencies (height, Lack of AFL exposure), but these far outweigh what else we could potentially get for Toumpas.

I'd rather have Kennedy on our list than yet another speculative 3rd round draft pick.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
