Just cos he didn't mention it doesn't mean it's not happening

I seriously doubt that it's happening. I big fish would require significant trade bait, and pick 6 alone would not suffice. There aren't any uncontracted players out there that would qualify as a big fish, and I doubt that any contracted players view us as a destination club this year.

Going by Mahoney's 'Trade Radio' interview there will no 'Big Fish' this year.

I don't mind not getting a 'Big Fish' per se but I just don't see a quantum improvement in results next year with a very inexperienced team. Quantum improvement in 2017 maybe, as <20 yo get to 30-50 game range but next year improvement is likely to be incremental. Little steps I guess.

Off to the trade table with pick 6!

Glad I'm off to London this week, because I couldn't be bothered sitting through another trade week without landing anyone decent.

... I doubt that any contracted players view us as a destination club this year.

Think that that's what Maloney was alluding to. A year of consolidation this year, Prestia or O'Meara next year when we move up the ladder.

Let's not forget we'll have Petracca and, hopefully, Trengove to come back in, not to mention players like Frost, Kent, Salem and Pedersen who missed huge chunks of the season. Without bringing in any outside players, we'll already have an improved list.

In any case, Hogan is our big fish. If we can sign him to a long-term deal over the next 6 months, I'd take that over anything else that might happen in trades. Well, almost.

It's go a long way to run AF. How many of these trades are done within the last few days and hours?

I'm inclined to agree re Hogan, Bing 181. Would love to have him signed to 5 years plus before the season proper.

Spot on.

Hogan's our big fish - in fact he's our great white shark.

A long term contract extension announced before the end of the year would be exactly the thing this club needs.

The clubs are posturing and in Melbournes case is keeping their cards very close to their chest.

Nothing is going to happen until the end of next week.

That's when we get the three and four way trades

Watts on first, Howes on 2nd Buggs on 3rd and Melksham is home.

We've seen nothing but quantum movements. Little steps. That's kind of the problem - we were hoping for massive changes.

A "big fish" would almost bring with him a huge improvement, or at least that's how Demonland sees it.

For now, I have to be happy with quantum movements. As long as they're moving forward.

If there is no "big fish" on its way we certainly wont be moving up the ladder.

Roos has had many talks with players and managers if my mail has been correct and if he doesnt get one over the line, I for one, wonder what the hell has he been doing this year? He hasnt been coaching. Hints he is pulling off a coup seem to come from the club.

I do expect a major signing and will not be at all happy if there isnt an ace up his river-boat sleeves.

Completely agree and if players know that they will have a gun like Hogan to deliver to long term, then our chances of becoming a 'destination club' increase

Couldn't disagree more Franky. We have a young list and plenty of players who still have lots of room to improve. You would hope that, potentially, a vast majority of these - Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, Hogan, Petracca etc. continue to improve their skills and help to guide us further up the ladder.

We would all like a 'big fish', but the reality is that our improvement will come from within the club.

we've just been berlying the fish in, but not much coming our way, they are very spooked... next week we get the net out for what remains of size & catch-able.

big fish can wait, til next seasons trade period.

I mentioned this last week. My mate still thinks Watts to Sydney and Robinson to us is on the cards. Obviously more to the deal, last week Birds name came up.

I disagree with this sentiment - Port a few years ago improved dramatically with limited in field change, Doggies captain walked and their big acquisition (Boyd) had minimal impact.

I expect we will improve the depth of our list, sign Hogan on a long term deal and get another year of development into our young talent. Boring i know, but the only way to build something sustainable.

Daniel Robinson. Roos had a bit to do with him during his time at the Swans academy.

In the other board on the "premiership 2018 thread" I did a team of our talent 23 & under. Our future is shaping up nicely.

Who was the Bulldogs big fish last year? A kid on a million a year sent to the two's to learn his craft.
