second hand players.

Recommended Posts

As trade times come closer and we consider drafting players from other clubs, we win with some and bomb out with others.

Who in the last 30 years has been our best second hand get?

My vote goes to Brett Lovett:

60 games in Hawthorn reserves.

235 games for the Dees.

Six times Vic representative

Fourth in 1990 Brownlow Medal

A great solid backman, ran off his man and kicked long into the forward line.

Anthony Ingerson was a good one from the Crows. Brian Wilson from the Scraggers, Stephen Icke and Peter Rhode were also decent.

I liked Bizzell

Just beat me to it! Also think Shanahan was a good pickup for us but I have a particular liking for Bernie. Like Laurie Fowler before him, I think he'll win the Bluey tomorrow night. Did Peter Moore win the B&F when he won the Brownlow?

I also remember Dean Chiron was a really good tagger for us late 80's. I remember Dermi cleaning him up at Waverley in a final. I think he was tagging Platten??

Powell could have been one of the better ones, but we couldn't keep him for long enough.

Leoncelli was good, was drafted to Carlton before playing at Old Xav's. Played close to 150 games then continued to contribute to the club by serving on the board for a number of years

Brian Wilson was a beauty.

Would get pinged nearly once a game trying to beat the tacklers.

Drove everyone crazy but I liked him.

Wonderful actor.

Did anyone from his generation play for free kicks more than he did?

Rod Owen's first 9 games for Melbourne were fantastic. Then he did his knee again. End of story.

Marcus Seecamp could play as well. Didn't take any cheek either.

Daniel Ward was good.

Loved watching Byron Pickett chase, tackle and hurt the opposition, plus score a few goals on the run (if I remember correctly).

Big fan of Stephen Powell, Dutchy was frustrating at times but also had a couple of good days out. Huge Jeff White fan, he was enormous for us - still don't think we've seen a player quite like him.
