Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why? Mahoney said at one point that while he was disappointed Howe didn't go to GCS that the fact he ended up at Collingwood allowed us to get Kennedy.

Howe did us a favour as it worked out. We still got pick 3. Why are your knickers in a knot? Hasn't Howe got the right to go where he is happiest.

So much aggro, so little logic.

The comment was made before pick 3 was done. I understand your very protective of the players bit like players saty is and thats fine.. thats your opinion right? Well my opinion is i dont give two shits about Howe or how he so much happier at Collingwood..the way he and his manager carried on this year proves my arguement that he is a [censored]. Im glad his half ass efforts and laziness is finally out of thus club for good. Edited by dazzledavey36

Hogan was a no brainer, as was F/S Viney. Many supporters at the time were desperate for Melbourne to do that deal.

I give no credit to the psychopath whatsoever.

psychopath
ˈsʌɪkəpaθ/Submit
noun
a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behaviour.
synonyms: madman/madwoman, mad person, deranged person, maniac, lunatic, psychotic, sociopath; More
informal
an unstable and aggressive person.
Initially I thought you'd gone overboard. On reflection, I think you're correct.

Toumpas was a no-brainer as well according to nearly all the recruiters and the large majority here. Including your good self.

It's all just revisionist stuff anyway ... the shouda, couda, wouda people can bleat and moan all they like but it won't do them any good.

Re Hogan - yes, a no-brainer but Neeld wasn't going to get the benefits of Hogan his way for at least 12 months.

I wasn't a Neeld fan but he should not be held to account alone for any draftees that ended up being poor choices. The draft is an ass anyway.

.

I'm making no comment on his involvement in Toumpas, I'm merely asserting he deserves zero credit for Viney and Hogan.

Zero.

Fairly sure that Neeld said the following in one of his press conferences ... paraphrasing ..

"I wanted grunt and we decided to go with the bloke with 2 bad hips"

Was he telling the truth?

Regardless, I blame the system we have rather than the clubs, recruiters or coaches (more so with the top end picks that don't work out)

Not all top juniors are able to make it in the big time ... that was true before we ever had drafting.

I know it will not change but they are drafted too young 19 should be the minimum.

old dee, if the drafting age doesn't change I can deal with it (I don't expect the drafting age to change either - at least not in the near future)

Raising the draft age (especially if it was raised by 2 years) would help a lot but there would still be busts (though not nearly as many one would think)

Anyway, despite my cynicism with regards to the draft, I'm still genuinely excited at the prospect of drafting 2 possible top players with picks 3 & 7 this season.

I'm not jaded or dismayed by our past drafting like many might be. I see the draft for what it is and am always hopeful.

I'm interested to see how a change of scenery has influenced the Toump as he lines up for Port this weekend.

Will a new role and different game plan be a key to unlocking his talent?

No doubt some posters will be "wgaf" but personally I'll be keeping an eye on his development at Port.

We got it right with Toumpas, after the disaster of drafting him over Wines, and gave him away to another club.

He doesn't have "it", and I'm confident that he never will. Rabbit in headlights.......

According to Ports bigfooty forum, he was woeful in the first half of their intra club game but got a bit of it in the 3rd qtr.

They said he ran around aimlessly and couldn't really work out the role he was playing....sound familiar?

Surely that's our fault, somehow....

Toumps an interesting one for me, I always felt he had the attributes to make it but much like Watts he was sapped of confidence in his developing years with poor management. He also, like Watts, seemed to "train the house down" and be one that people pointed to being the big improver. Confidence is still his biggest barrier and perhaps a change in location will help that. That pick will always haunt us though, Wines being best mates to Viney and us passing him for Toump, and if Jimmy becomes a good player at port they will have nabbed them both.

I kinda wish him luck.

Where did you see that. I haven't heard anything like that. I only read somewhere in December that he was working really hard.

I suspect he'll mature in SA, & become a very good footy player at SANFL level... may if he reaches full potential get another crack making it in AFL, but he imo needs a lot of maturing yet to feel good enough.

I guess what interests me the most was Hinkley's ability to transform Polec into the player he is now. People labelled him a potato at Brisbane but arrived home to SA and killed it.

Can the same be extracted from Toumpas? If it can, I reckon he can play off a wing.

I hate potting players of any side but.....Jimmy seems to me like a little lap dog , always sniffing around the out side.    I don't think he ever had the confidence to just play the game.   Sort of had an inferiority  complex even at MFC.

I wish him the best but I don't think he can change his personality.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
