Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...

I agree with Thomas. The comments were directed to the entire club, especially staff within it. He has back-pedalled because he has walked on broken glass.

If he doesn't back-pedal, we have Neeld all over again. If he does, he has to cop what Thomas rightfully says.

The issue isn't with Roos. It is cultural. It is the fact that the club has a soft underbelly that permeates from supporter-base to staff to coterie groups to everywhere. Even Jesus H. Christ can't fix that in 19 months.

Of course this was never directed to us supporters as a whole.

He waxes lyrical on AFL360 all the time.

Now he muses about the poor souls reflected on this site we read it as him blaming us for the last two games.

Don't be so sensitive. Listen to what he is saying - reject it if you want but know he isn't alone - when supporters start talking to me about how much we are going to get beaten before the teams are out - I feel we have a problem.

And of course it is going to reach the outer halls of the club - they have the same mindset and mores as us.

I actually think that the worst thing Mr. Roos does is being on AFL360.

It sets him up every week.

No matter what he says it will be run by the media in whatever way suits them on every occasion.

As we know the truth seldom gets in the way of a good story.

The best thing he can do IMO is to remove himself from that program forthwith.

If he was not on there this week I am confident none of this crap would exist.

How?

Well if he was not on there the chances are the statement would not have been made.

He then would then not have had to spend hours defending / changing it and answering Members emails etc etc.

theoretically he could just as easy let the comment go in a post-match presser or some such

Do we really think he's personally answering members' emails? While I'd be impressed if he's making that effort, I'd be even more unimpressed if the club wasn't using one of its myriad of employees to do it for him. It's the sort of task I would expect a Matt Burgan to be doing.

As to 360, appearing in the media on a regular basis seems to me to be a positive for the club to enable continuing exposure. Whether we like it or not, a head coach has to do more than "just coach". He's expected to be the chief spruiker and generally speaking something that Roos does quite well.

In short, I think it is part of his "real job" and an important one.

Edit: added last line.

He said he was LDC.

So does that mean he is telling Pork Pies and he does not answer emails?

I was just giving you a reason for why he would have more time if he was not on AFL360.

I really can't believe the apparent position being taken by some on here. SACK THE COACH NOW!!!!!!!! Another one? Simple fact is we are still bearing the pain of the legacy bestowed upon us by previous regimes. We are talent poor. Simple as that. Considering where we were before Roos took over, there has been some remarkable performances, although I agree it would certainly be nice to have more. We have a bunch of young stars, who at this time of the year are probably tired and sore. Certainly we lack a core group of real leaders and I suspect that when the tide turns against us, as it inevitably does with any football club, the collective mindset with our group becomes; Oh no, here we go again. Such an attitude then become like a contagion which affects the entire group.

PR maybe good, but he does not possess divine powers. We have too wait.

Yes iv'a 100% correct and it as simple as that.

Not some crap about how the supporters are dragging down the players.

Not sure he actually said that OD. I think he was talking about a veil of negativity that shrouds the entire club. That is, players, coaching staff, admin and supporters. The old self fulfilling prophecy syndrome. Perhaps his efforts of explaining it were clumsy, but then again how does anyone explain what has bedevilled us for so long now.

Goodwin doesn't need another year under Roos,he did 3 years with the Bombers and 2 with us,5 is enough,Beveridge & Simpson did 3 at the Hawks,he won't learn anymore with another year under Roos.

Roos gives up his $M1.5 and we spend $M1 on Dangerfield and delist 6 VFL players that make up our best 22,simple he fits in the cap.

Peter Jackson headhunted Roos because he was a good coach 10 years ago!!!

Meatloaf was a good singer 10 years ago

My Mrs. reckons I was a good Root 10 years ago.

When was the last time a CEO interfered with the Football Department,oh that's right Cameron Schwab !!!!!!!

In my wildest dreams I cannot believe that what is said on Fan sites like demonland affect the way players perform.

The simple fact remains that for most of the last decade we have had teams that were of a low standard.

It culminated in the 2012-3 period were we had a VFL level standard team.

It is a long way back from there.

While the standard of player has improved over the last two years we are still blessed with a bottom 4-5 list.

That is the reason we don't win games.

As you said we are "talent poor"

1. I think he remains a very astute reader of the modern day game.

2. Really??? Never could stomach his music really. It is amazing what production gurus can do in a recording studio

3. Now that is really funny. Sadly, my missus says the same to me.

The discussion here at the moment keeps going round on this question: Is it the coach or the players?

IMHO, and the opinion of many others, the answer is CLEARLY NOT that we are 'talent poor' as you say

My evidence for this is that we have shown on several (albeit infrequent) occasions that we do have the talent

If you watch the games against tigers, dogs and cats you see a top 6 side, no doubt about it

It is only fair then to suggest it lies in the coaches hands to get this ability out of them 4 qtrs x 22 games

I don't agree C and B we had a number of players running around last Sunday that are not AFL standard / Ready.

We had IMO 18 players who were up to the standard no team will win with 4 passengers

That then goes round and round as well, is it not up to the players to bring their best week after week without needing the coaches to inspire them to do so?

Its clear to me PR has given up on at least some of the current list.

I think he has said the same thing too many times.

I hope his concentration is set on new blood because It looks like he has something else to worry about. Must be something big to look so dis-affected by the teams effort.

I haven't trawled through all 40 pages but anyone with this view doesn't deserve the time of day. They'll be the same people questioning Goodwin after our first loss and demand his sacking after our first bad one.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
