Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Free Agency Targets - Dan Hannebery

Looking at future free agency targets.

We still for sure need another group of players to complete a solid best 22.

We have money in the cap, What targets and how much money would you throw at your targets?

For Mine, Dan Hannebery is the player we need.

One of the best two way runners in the comp.

One of the toughest in the comp.

Skills certainly improved and are now elite.

What would be people worries/concerns?

Thoughts/comments??

i thought a rumour was out there that he wanted to come back to Victoria?

Just a rumour,

it started because he's selling his house up there and naturally people thought maybe that's because he wanted to move back to VIC, which he has since cleared up

however Sydney won't have cap room to offer him the sort of money he's worth, he's got a good connection with Roosy and Sydney may be tempted by a high pick rather than losing him as a free agent if they can't match the offers so it's worth making an offer i think.

There is a rumour every three months he wants back to vic.

In truth it is (insert various vic club) supporter dreaming this and waking up with soggy pants.

Not sure how much credibility it has but Mark Stevens reported it on AFL Game Day a couple of weeks ago

Let's just hope we can grab one of these 2016 FA's a year early, if the clubs fear losing them as for less compo the following year. Even band 1 compo to Sydney "if" they lost Hannebery wouldnt compare to trades this year, cant see them dropping out of the 4 anytime soon. Go hard Dees

We have the salary cap to make a play for a gun like Hannebery. Wouldn't mind Tom Mitchell either if we could work out a good trade.

I'm reasonably well connected when it comes to Hannebery...

My mail is that he will probably end up in Melbourne, but will sign one more contract with Sydney.

He didn't have much to do with Roos when Roos was Sydney coach. Roos delegated and didn't really have a lot to do with the young players at Sydney, which Hannebery was when Roos was coach. So the "connection" angle is thin, although he no doubt respects him.

And I can tell you for a fact, Hannebery doesn't rate Melbourne - at all. He may end up in the city, but it won't be at the club. That said, he really rates Hogan.

This is the problem and why it is laughable when these true A Grade players keep getting put forward. The fact is we have to get to being a genuine finals contender before genuine A graders will consider us.

We have to do it via the Draft and trying to secure some good B graders eg Bernie Vince before we can even hope to get a Dangerfield or Shiel or Hannaberry.

Why would his guy or anyone of note come to MFC?

Maybe in 2 years time if we start making the 8, otherwise is it over paying for B graders and players who have not had a shot at other clubs.

Same reason Ablett went to Gold Coast, or Judd to Carlton,

they've won a flag and are now looking for a new challenge...

Oh, and lots of...

1 + 1 = 3.

Who would have thought you can sell a house in Sydney and buy another one in Sydney?

Apparently not Mark Stevens.

Wowee, controversial username.

RE Hannebery, would love to have him. It might just be the rise of Parker though, but has he dropped off a little in the last couple of years?

He has been killing it this year

Then I hope we have a good crack at him!

Having overlooked him for Blease & Strauss back in 2008, I wonder whether we would have also taken Bennell in front of Hannebery if he was still available at pick 35. Given Barry's appalling record, probably so.

He probably would have been half the player he is now if we did pick him

Us Demons were quite keen on Jack Redden for pick 35 before Brisbane swooped in at pick 25 (see link below). With all the stories about us assuring Rory Sloane that he would be picked here (which I believe from all that has been said on these forums) just makes you scratch your head in bemusement.

Warning: the following link contains a story about our 2008 drafting with "insight" from Barry Prendergast. Read at your own risk!

Maybe he may think differently in the knowledge that both Brayshaw and Petracca have committed to extensions!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
