Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Defining Moments

I agree with the Kent hit. He didn't flinch, got smashed and jogged off. It set the standard and I thought we were much harder than them all day.

The end to end Tyson goal was a thing of beauty and defined how [censored] ugly we've been to watch over recent years, and the great football we Demons supporters have not been able to enjoy. Gave me goosebumps.

I was wondering about that myself. He's taken it from right on the line. I guess it was fading towards the post, so he couldn't know that it was going through and if you ignore that little fact it was a great bit of play.

Agreed, but I still reckon Jonesy thinks Watts and Garlett own him a goal between them ... :)

A few that haven't been mentioned yet:

Jack Watts set shot from the boundary. I was right behind it, and from the moment it left his boot it never looked anything but perfect.

JKH turning in board and hitting Tyson perfectly in stride, and Tyson finishing it off like a star.

vandenBerg's massive smother that eventually led to Nathan Jones' goal.

Garlett running away from a centre bounce for a long goal … nice way to answer a GC score, that was!

Garlett deftly dispossessed Prestia at the centre bounce then and ran onto the loose ball, sped off and we know the rest. How good is it by the way to yell out JEFFFFFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! again

Just watching the replay now I've had a big lunch and done the Easter/family thing.

Kent went down so hard but is such a tough nut. Love the way Frost and HL went straight in - HL was really, really angry. Getting a very different vibe already compared to previous seasons. I'm loving the replay.

Watts came in pretty quickly too, though because he bent over, he was easily pushed over.

Speaking of leadership the commentators didn't bag Ablett when he didn't congratulate that Coutts(?) guy for his first ever goal even though he was standing very close. Admittedly the game was effectively over at the time, but I can imagine the all round bagging that eg. Grimes would have got for that.

You are correct. I couldnt take my eyes off HL. Watts came in pretty quickly as well. Great stuff.

not being picky (well, maybe just a tad) but that great tap down by wattsy to garrlett for the goal

.......watching the replay 10 times, he could have just let the ball go through and it would have been a goal

all's well that ends well i suppose - lol

My thoughts were that when you run and jump at a ball on the goal a couple of things happen. A) you don't know where the ball is with respect to goal, post etc so if you can mark you usually mark to make sure of it, unless you have approached the ball shower and are confident you can shepherd it through. B) you don't know if there is an opponent coming to touch it through.

It is better than "fly for the mark, not be able to take it, and rush it across for a behind". I think he decided to tap it down when he raised he want going to mark it and I'm Ok with that. Especially because it worked.

Goal of the round?

It looked to me that it would have been a point if Watts didn't Palm it back into play. I thought it was brilliant play

Late in the 3rd quarter, after garland had been slammed backwards into the plastic grass on the boundary, Hogan went up to the the GC player (Day?) and abused him at length. Day(?) backed off almost apologetically and maybe a little fearfully. Nice to see someone a bit frightening in red & blue. For me, the first since Byron Pickett to be genuinely scary. Frightening (in a very warm way) to think what he's going to be like when he gains some confidence!

And how about Hogan deciding he was a mid fielder for a while there and doing good work.

The Tyson goal and Lumumba goal were the moments for me. I might have a short memory but that Tyson goal was like I was watching a good team for once. I used to be very biased by my ill feelings against Lumumba because of some of the things he had said in interviews but I think he is going to be a very good player for us and that was a fantastic goal when we needed it. The Hudson commentary was great as well

Cross to Salem for our last goal and almost on the same spot as the Essendon game last year is worth a mention ....

The more I think about it, the defining moment was at the selection table on Thursday night.

A lot of people here said it was the best looking Melbourne team on paper in a number of years and as harsh as it sounds, not seeing Bail, Matt Jones, McKenzie and Grimes (although I thought his NAB Cup was solid) was reassuring.

The team winning was probably a bittersweet moment for those dropped, formerly best 22 players. Another poster observed that Roos probably gave them a final chance to take their game to another level in the NAB Cup, but all 3 just delivered more of the same (poor disposal, poor tackles, frees against).

Not their fault, they're just limited footballers. The decision has obviously been made to inject games into our youth now, due to their far higher ceiling.

For me, these players can still play a part (if they dominate in the VFL) but none of them should be relied upon too heavily and nor should more than one or two be in the team at the same time.

My thoughts too, it feels like we've found our ideal players, and the players that were just listed are now the backup/depth they should have been. They are battlers who can fill a role but their weaknesses are too much to cover if they all start in the team

Yes, the last of our 17 goals.

A bit of frenetic play, Garlett looking to goal and can't, handballs under pressure to Cross, Cross then to Salem. Time slows momentarily, Salem makes a cup of tea, eats a bickie, reads a book, pats the dog and then kicks the ball. Goal umpire stands on that spot that marks the mid point between the two posts and looks to the heavens as the footy sails directly over her nose.

The defining bit? Was the fact that pretty much everyone of us knew that the only place that ball was going after Christian's kick was back to the centre square.

Was such a commanding grab, he was like a magnet the way the ball and the play just got drawn to him and he floated in front of everyone like a graceful Godzilla.(or perhaps just God)

Great kick from Viney to the hot spot too.

Yep, didn't see much of the fumbles he exhibited during the NAB Challenge either. He's made for playing in the middle of the G not in the middle of nowhere.

Salem does create time, doesn't he. Great to watch. Not too many in the competition can do that so well.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
