Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agree with this. Ahead of him (on importance) I'd have:

Vince

Gawn

Hogan

Cross

Watts

Brayshaw

Salem

Dunn

McDonald

Petracca

Garlett

Jetta

Arguments can be made that in 2-3 years the likes of Kent, Neal-Bullen, Frost, Stretch will also be more important/influential players. Wouldn't want to pay more than $400k for Howe. Marketing tool? Yes. Piece to build a team around? No.

If you want to argue that "in 2-3 years the likes of Kent, Neal-Bullen, Frost, Stretch will also be more important/influential" it would only be fair to argue that players such as Cross, Dunn and Vince possibly will not be because of their age.

A further update: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-08-14/roos-rapt-with-gawn-resigning

Quote: "Meanwhile, Roos is confident high-flying utility Jeremy Howe will re-sign with the club beyond this year".

Some DL's will say "I'll believe it when I see it" but to me it looks like we can expect another announcement before EOS!

I agree with most of the list but we are still comparing quite a few on potentially becoming better players and are not yet better.

The challenge with Howe is which one are we going to re-sign or let go.

Are we going to keep the Howe we drafted? The attacking HBF and driven HFF or averaged a goal and a bit a game (while we were filth) and was up amongst the league leaders in contested grabs? Although many say this Howe was still a 'one trick pony' its important to note that this trick is arguably the most difficult and most important one in the book.

Or would we keep the Howe who cruises around doing sweet bugger all racking up less than 10 touches a game and playing like he is already gone?

I'm a fan and believe that at his best he is easily a best 22 player. Its just whether or not he wants to be at his best with us.

I'd be upset if he left but it might be a best case for all if that happens.

The question is whether someone who won't finish top ten in the B&F expect a 600K contract? GC might be the right destination - more salary cap room and prepared to pay a premium to drag people through the gate.

Opening up contract talks doesn't necessarily mean what it might have meant 5 years ago. The club and Howe's management still have to agree to terms and his management might firmly believe that he can receive very good coin elsewhere, at another club.

And that club could be GWS ... more as a marketing ploy rather than his actual football ability. Let's face it, the sport is also about "entertainment" so in some ways Howe to GWS is a no-brainer. Our club needs players to attract the fans too but we're an established club that needs wins more than anything else ... and we do have Hogan :)

The AFL might also push for the move too after the Buddy deal that fell through - a win/win outcome beckons. Howe's best footy is quite good but the club always has to come first. The GCS is another possible destination.

What we get for Howe might be far more valuable than Howe himself. The same applies for any player really (apart from the absolute untouchables such as Hogan, Brayshaw & Salem et al)

Free agency was always going to open up player movement in general - the supporters and members may not like it but more and more people are warming to the idea of their team improving it's list through astute trading. Of course, Howe isn't a free agent so we can at least control our own destiny.

Finally, in an ideal world, the club and the majority of our supporters may want to keep Howe but what happens if the right offer comes along? ... and that offer may already be on the table too. Also, there may well be more than one offer.

If he stays, well and good - if he goes, the club is obligated to get the best deal for him.

"Melbourne defender Jeremy Howe will begin assessing in a fortnight whether he wants to remain at the club next season."

Begin? If - I suspect "when" - Howe leaves, it will be interesting to see how long after the season he announces his decision.

Howe has learn't the Henderson lesson, and is playing a straight bat (lying).

That article says that Garland could command $500 per year. Gimme a spell.

well, they were saying 600+k before. but yeah 500k is overs.

think the media like to boost the figures to create more of a story

remember for years we were told hird was on 1M a year, now media are saying it was "around" 750K

He gave away around 4 goals today from either laziness, stupidity or incompetence. That left foot kick into the corridor in the second quarter was embarrassing.

Very reminiscent of Frawley in late 2014. I think he's gone.

Maybe I'm thinking irrationally after a poor performance but would we really be that much worse off if Howe and Garland both packed their bags?

Jack Watts has since his 100th played his best footy and become a key member of the side. 100th game is about the time players come into their prime. Jeremy is in the same boat and his best is in front of him.

It is a shame that he apparently is offended/insulted about his treatment during last years trade period. Roos made it clear last year that everyone was on the trade table (if all parties agreed) and it isn't the club's fault that GWS made their offer with a few hours to go. I suspect JH would be more offended if the club didn't tell him of the GWS offer at all.

Hope Jeremy is mature enough to make a decision for the right reasons. He is coming into his prime and we need 100 game players. For these reasons I hope he stays.

agree with all that... I haven't watched him this year, so I have no idea how he's been going. I have to rely on peoples reports.

I just hope the club list ends up the stronger, as a result of whatever happens.

I always thought he was an ok kick, but after watching more closely the last couple of weeks, I need to revise that. He consistently butchered it.

This is hard to explain so stick with me, but when he has it at half back, a player is 5 or 10 metres clear of his man, instead of hitting him up and controlling the play with a mark, he kicks to grass as if to say the player has enough space to get there and collect it before his man gets there. Inevitably, the ball bounces at a right angle and the player is under immense pressure.

Does it all the time, but one glaring case was one where he put Grimes under the pump big time early yesterday and cost us a goal. Would you continue to create space between you and your opponent, if you are just going to consistently be put under the pump by your teammate's woeful skills.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
