Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack Watts vs Jimmy Toumpas

Hahaha!!! What a waste of time these comments are. All the Watts/Toump doubters will quickly jump on board during the season.

I can't wait for the "I told you so's" to come. It's going to be fun to watch some eat their piece of the humble pie being baked right now.

See you then.

My comments are based on their current form, we can't predict the future. See you then buddy.

Phrases like "current form" and "at the moment" are pretty hollow in mid-February. I have the expectation that each and every player on our list will be working and improving on all aspects of their football during this and every preseason. I'd save any big statements like the OP has made until I have at least seen a preseason game or two against real opposition and can form an opinion on recent observations.

You always need to have a balance of outside and inside players - I don't think they are playing the same role really. Watts is a high HF who will be asked to patrol about 80m out and get the ball inside the 50 with his feet. Toumpas may have the same skillset but he won't be able to play a high HF role - he might be on a wing and got through the backline.

These two will benefit when the team gets first use of the footy and when we move the ball quickly from defence and get space for them to get into - but these aspects rely on others to get them the ball. We just have to get the footy out of the middle more, and to move it quicker out of defence.

This is so true, especially about Watts. He is good over head and has pace over short distance to burn. If we can move QUICKLY either out of defence or from a stoppage and get the ball in his hands 80m out Hogan and Dawes and co will be licking their lips

Jack Watts has never played in a strong team ther moment he does you watch how good he'll look when he can be fed the ball on a platter.. He in mind has the ability to play like Goddard..

FMD, anyone with any kind of skill at football would look great with it being feed to them on a "platter". But that isn't what footy is about. The best teams actually don't have players who only rely on getting fed the ball by their teammates, sure some players recieve handballs or kicks in space more then others, but they all have the ability to win there own ball and win 1 on 1s and tackle someone hard. That's what footy is about and that's what makes a good footballer and a good football team, having 22 COMPETITORS who all have the necessary skills in terms of ball use and marking ect. From what I have seen, Watts has some great skills with the ball in hand, and I have heard he is pretty fast although I have not seen that, unfortunately that isn't enough to be a good footballer.

I do hope he turns it around !!

FMD I am sick of the Watts wrong comments.

He is one of ours

He contributes at a higher level than most.

He contributes for longer periods than most.

He aint perfect all the time

Not all of the 22 COMPETITORS

I think people who expected Watts to be a hard bodied midfielder are delusional. He's not Nathan Jones. His spot isn't in the middle of the ground. He's limited in what he can do, but by no means is he worthless. He can run, take marks and kick goals. They have both been cited for their softness at times, but the comparison with Toumpas ends there. Having Watts on the field (played in the right position) is good for the team, as he can be a dangerous player. Not being able to do one thing shouldn't keep him out of the 22

I wouldn't say they are big statements, both of these players and outside players who don't like much of the contested footy, Watts being an outside mid/forward, Toumpas being an outside mid/forward possibly half back. We have already seen much of what these guys can offer on game day.

Both of these players don't get enough of the contested ball and don't impact the game enough to be a certainty for our best 22, sure they have all the talent in the world off the ground but at the moment I don't think we can play both of these at the same time, it's either one or the other for me at this stage.

Jack Watts can't lay an effective tackle, he knows when it's his turn to win the hard ball but doesn't do it(I understand the meaning of outside player, but every game has situations when even outsides players need to go in) but to sugguest he doesn't impact games enough is way off the mark. His use of the ball is exceptional putting it most times to our teams advantage. There are parts of his game that frustrate me but I also don't think our depth is as good as some on here make out, he's currently best 22 for mine.

Toumpas is slow, an ordinary disposed of the ball and frightened n to hit a pack

Cale Morton Mark 2

Watts is quick when he's not running at a pack or a disputed balla beautiful disposer of the ball and also frightened to hit a pack

The only reason both have a chance to rise above their current state is Paul Roos.

Toumpas is our 3rd best kick behind Salem and Watts.

No one has ever expected him to be a hard big bodied midfielder so I don't know where your pulling that from.

What we do expect is that when its his turn to go he must go! He hangs back too oftern half guessing himself whether to go at the contest or not.

So in other words he needs to grow a set.

I like Watts and hope he can really turn it on this year.

Having said that, I do agree. I would love to know how many tackles he has laid in his almost 100 games.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
