Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFL NATIONAL DRAFT - Pick 9

What

Well Billings was training with us for a while so it would be pretty good if we got him, would know the boys and slot straight into the side, but Saints will probably take him :/

I like Freeman but i am warming to another Jack (Billings)

Like every year it will be interesting to see how many of the top dozen fail to play 50 games

Just hope it isnt pick 9

Found this on Freeman and don't know how reliable because it is bigfooty.. lol

''Melbourne have told him they will select him at 9 if available''.

When another club has Pick 6 and Pick 10 then the owners of Pick 9 will keep their cards close to their chest.

With that in mind, do you think Roos and Viney would do such a thing?

It seems to go round in circles that one, read the same thing on here a few weeks to a month ago. Didn't believe it then, don't believe it now for the same reasons given by 'rpfc'.

Well considering some of our current mids have quite good kicking skills and some don't just proves that you don't know what you're talking about...

Thanks for your simplistic analysis. REALLY adds to the discussion. Congratulations.

19 - RICHMOND - Luke Tapscott

DOB: 28/06/91, Height: 180cm, Weight: 86kg

Recruited from: Orroroo/North Adelaide (SA)

Draft range: 8-24

Meet Luke Tapscott

Richmond won't find many players with better foot skills than Tapscott. The powerfully-built midfielder/forward has been compared to Lion Daniel Rich and is widely acknowledged as the best kick in the draft, capable of thumping the ball more than 60 metres. The Tigers are massive fans of the 2009 All-Australian, but would also consider talls Jake Carlisle and Ben Griffiths, and the pacy Ryan Bastinac. Tapscott has strong hands, ball-winning ability and is fierce at the ball.

The above is from Burgatron's 2009 Phantom draft. We took him at 18. EQ also had him in her top 25 (at 23). He went about where most of the "experts" thought he would.

Well, let's all hope that the coaching genius Roos can get out of Tappy his very best, or rather guide him to do that himself.

Let us review the nature vs nurture, drafting vs development debate after 12 months of Roos.

PS: the "draft a mate" concept is so very immature, but may have reflected the expertise and thinking of our recruiting staff, our coaching staff and our administration at the time. I have no doubt that Roos will draft for what he needs, and let the poor darlings make friends with their new teammates should that so wish: alternatively, provided that they pull their weight when needed, they can elect to be loners a bit like Scarlett was said to be. Didn't do him too much harm.

Someone close to me played with Freeman down at Sandy this year. When I asked about Freeman, the response I got was surprising. He didn't talk about explosive pace or goal-kicking ability. He said Freeman is a BULLY. Apparently the kid is the same size now as he was at 16 - and in juniors he used his physicality and grunt to literally bully and scare other kids on the field.
Height might still be the same, but supposedly the aggression is still well and truly there.

I'm finding in a way that having a pick in the vicinity of 9 is in a way even more exciting than having a pick in the early couple. Reason being I know we should still getting an excellent player, but there are so many permutations of who could be available and who we could like that the mystery adds another element. Can't it be draft day already?

I was probably one of the ones that said that. And it is true. We were going to pick him at 2 so its only natural we will pick him at 9!

A bit like when we had pick 12 & chose Lucas Cook?

Anything could happen!

I have played with 'Freo' at representative level from U12s to this year.
He use to have a nick name bull, as he was that bullier, that got the ball and charged through packs - only knew one way & that was FORWARD.
However this changed after u16s, developing a defensive side to his game making him more well rounded.

His explosiveness is a highlight of him, as thats what differs him from Viney, they're both hunters, but Freemans pace away from the contest, first 5m is the quickest ive seen

Just from the fun of closely watching the videos, and yes, we know that means 3/5ths of fa, I can't split Freeman and Salem.

Freeman is unique with his pace and decent endurance, not to mention he's also good inside, and Salem screams quality to me. Smart, good decisions, a bit more outside, but tough and a brilliant left foot kick.

I suppose I'm a bit more excited as to what Freeman could become. A quicker better version of Shuey.

It might be 'more exciting' to have pick 9 (instead of pick 2) but it is also safer.

Stuff up pick 2 and face the wrath of supporters. Pick 9 offers a buffer, some sort of excuse if the player doesn't meet expectations. 'Our top couple of picks were already gone!'

Hopefully this applies to past drafts and that our new selectors will get this one right.

Nah...Lucas Cook was pick 12 and there's no buffer on here about that one.

You must get your first round picks right and we haven't been good.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
