St Kilda convinced a very comfortable Malcolm Blight to be their saviour and it wasn't right - his head was retired long before.

I know Roos isn't playing golf (and driving a golf cart selling drinks!) in Palm Cove but he is comfortable.

If he hasn't come around after a couple of meetings and our sign of intent - move on.

Mark Williams isn't perfect but he would be a very good fallback option - a proven coach that can instill some confidence in the club and players.

I guess the more he is asked this the more it stirs the simple minded that he must be interested.

And the wing nuts that claim "every man has his price" seem to forget that we are going cap in hand to the AFL for money.

We can't pay stupid sums for a coach and money alone does not guarantee an outcome.

Roos was never going to say thy he is interested the Melbourne job whilst neeld was still coach.

Everything changes now that the market is open.

The Melbourne coaching role has to be the best opportunity going around.

History would probably support a different view. Blight prone to , lets be kind and describe them as accentric moments. Roos has been far more constrained and methodical.

Yeah not so much that Roos is Blight like - and my view is that Blight lost his marbles a long time ago. Roos appears quite measured except when speaking about the Swans when he becomes a cheerleader. I don't mind that. Shows his passion is still there.

More the situation of convincing someone to take the job when they really don't want to return to coaching. That's my concern with Roos

You can relax Jack. Peter Jackson is an AFL appointment who is at MFC for up to 18 months.It yet to be seen what full time CEO will be available at that time. When Schwab was sacked there were and are a number of substantial detractions to the MFC role. And you would expect that the position would be a far better outlook in 18 months that the crud role Jackson has had to endure where he has had to:1. Watch the Board implode and the President rightly fall on his sword.2. Totally revamp a dysfunctional FD including the appointment of a new FD director and dismissal of senior FD personnel.3. Sack the Coach and re appoint a new Coach.4. Go cap in hand to the AFL because the Club is $3m under water and can't afford to unwind a number of the appalling decisions made by this Board.5. Following the termination of the coach address the risk of key players moving to greener pastures.And these are just the major short term challenges to go with the possible drop off in members and sponsors dollarsThe above reasons were why the CEO at MFC was seen as.poisoned chalice by some. Then tell me if the AFL's backing, removal of members of the board, the admin and the lure of the priority pick might have changed the landscape. I think it is cute to suggest that somehow people of character were always going to carry the day when in truth the AFL has stepped in to run this club. It's got nothing to do with character, Jack. The features of the club that made it unattractive are being altered by the AFL. Not by the club. Not by us. Those "brave enough" are getting backing. So it isn't bravery, really, is it? The last thing we need is for us to be on here 2-3 years from now bemoaning the one-eyed nature of the coaching panel, continually pressing for one person (whether it's Roos or anyone else) at the expense of others.

It's vitally important that we put a lot of work into Roos, but we also need to make sure that he's the best candidate, and that means we put work into Eade, into Williams, into Clarkson, Laidley, Ratten and anyone else that is available. We need to see what the options are and we need to make sure that whoever we pick is committed.

Really!! Neeld has nearly the worst record in history. Surely it's up to him to get the players motivated. From the start he treated them like shite. It's impossible for them to ignore their fellow players being humiliated in front of the group without them realising this could not only happen to them at any minute but also how to respect the coach doing it. His first game against Brisbane he gave steph Martin a bake at half time that none of the players had ever seen. There has been a lot of humiliation of individual players in front of the group including vision on the field. He is delusional or lying.

I'm the first to say I have no frigging idea. If Roos wants to do it for the right reasons then I can't be disappointed with someone who has the capacity to change the culture and unite the club.

Lol BH. I'm throwing my hat into the ring as to having no idea which possible coach is ideal either. One thing I do know, provided we get one of Roos, Clarkson, Williams or Eade, we should be a whole lot better than what we've had to witness the last 18 months.

In fact I also think we'll do pretty well under Craig from here after he's had 3 to 4 weeks with the boys. He's no slouch and I reckon he might instill some fight and belief amongst this lot which will surprise many. Although I can also hear Old Dee in the background warning me not to go too early and to believe it when I see it.

I'm gonna take that advice with all things MFC from here.

Haha nice positive thinking. But if I was a perspective coach and had no objections I'd be pretty keen on the West Coast job which is looking a high chance of being open come September. They have a raft of young midfield talents (Shuey, Selwood, Masten and co) a decent spine and a gun young ruck man. Throw in a home game advantage and you've pretty much got 8 wins a year to start with.

Lose for long enough even taking over this group of players and you'll be out the door. If Roos took over and went 4-18 in 2013 we wouldn't mind, but do it again in 2014 and he might be in trouble. Except then the AFL probably will tell us to grin and bear it as they wont pay him out.

Roos is the AFLs choice and no doubt they will help getting him over the line. How the club restructures itself, what personnel are recruited to the admin team will have an influence on his final decision.

One of the positives if we do get him is that he is not an assistant coach at another club and can start planning in advance i.e dissecting the list etc during this season, watching more Demons games/replays.

A confirmed rumour, directly from a current board member, and confirmed via a current player/coach manager. This person does not look after Roos but is connected into the Roos camp.

I said this was the case about 2 months ago.
