Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That's not the info I've found.

From when Gawn was placed on the LTI this year:

"The 208cm ruckman will be forced to stay on the LTI list for a minimum of eight weeks"

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-01-29/gawn-cut-down

Yeah, you're right. The LTI duration is the time that the Player's name is on the LTI list or 8 weeks, whichever is the greater (paraphrase from AFL Collective Bargaining Agreement 12.2(b); LTI defined in AFL Player Rules).

Glad you could find the actual rules, was looking for them earlier and best I could find was that Gawn article. Nice one.

Huh? Contested possessions BL 150 - MFC 119. Clearances 40 - 31.

Double huh?!

We've clashed a bit on this thread Stuiey but I'm with you here haha. As bad as McDonald has been leaking 8 or so goals last 2 weeks and his skills have been average I shudder the thought of Gillies standing still unable to run to the contest or being totally ineffectual when he got there!

Setanta might've kicked a lazy 10!

McDonald is coming off a limited preseason, he'll eventually get there, but even a rusty McDonald is better than Gillies.

McDonald with one leg is better than Gillies. I think I'd rather give Troy Davis a shot and he's a long way from AFL from what I've seen before.

said in jest but with a certain amount of validity.

davis has the attributes of a good defender, he just lacks disposal skill (albeit massively lacking)

i think if he was given strict instruction to just bang the ball 50m down the line he could be quite effective as a spoiling defender

give mcdonald a go in the forward line- - let him use his marking ability, long arms and good vertical leap and endurance to run and run- used to be very good at it, when he was a forward,

Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth!

Beware the Thane of Fyffe!

Dismiss me, enough!

Tommy Mc can't kick.

The LTI quote has only to be a nominal 8 weeks, if he's back in six it just means Magner (or whoever) cannot play.

Not sure why this keeps coming up, as above, we had it with Gawn's LTI earlier in the year. It's a MINIMUM of 8 weeks. If Mitch is on the LTI and makes a miraculous recovery in 4 weeks, tough, he would have to sit out the final 4 weeks, and couldn't even play at Casey.

31.4.1

Minimum 8 Weeks

An injured Player transferred to a Club’s Long Term Injury List is ineligible to play in the AFL Competition or a State Body competition for a minimum period of 8 weeks, commencing from the day on which the General Manager – Football Operations gives his approval for the injured Player to transfer to the Club’s Long Term Injury List.

Please, please, please.....once and for all! Magner is ineligible for selection.

Clark will go onto long term injury, that should take him to the bye round, get him right not like we need to rush him back. Upgrade Magner, then if this, goes well dont we get to have a nominated rookie mid year, if magner grabs his chance gets this spot if not if Couch keeps his form he gets this spot.

We need midfielders Magner has been our best midfielder at casey, he needs to come in, we are playing 5 small forwards Bail, Davey, Byrnes Tapscott and Blease , min of 2 need to make way for midfielders Viney and Magner.

Couldn't disagree anymore, i have felt this year that Tappy has really taken some positive steps forward in his regards to his development.

He is starting to play and own that role on the Half forward flank and become a necessary/important part of the team.

When we FINALLY have a forward set up of Dawes and Clark, Tapscott will only improve even more from this.

Good comment.

The most important thing for Tappy is just playing each week.

His confidence will grow and it will allow him to take that next step.

At 22 and 30 odd games he is our future.

He is as tough as a bull, something which most people winge that we dont have.

Hopefully will develop into the Campbell Brown type with 50-60 odd games under his belt

FB: Terlich Sellar Garland

HB: Grimes Frawley Dunn

C: Evans Jones Byrnes

HF: Tapscott Pedersen Viney

FF: Howe Gawn Bail

Foll: Jamar Trengove Sylvia

Int: Strauss McKenzie M. Jones Kent

Out: McDonald, Blease, Rodan, Watts, Davey

In: Sellar, Dunn, Strauss, Viney, Kent

Tommy McDonald will be a good player for us but he needs a break. Full back isn't his go yet. Lets give Sellar a shot. Similarly its time for Dunn and Strauss to have a go at half back so we can play Evans and Grimes in the midfield. Viney needs to come back.

Time to give Kent a go as sub if not full game.

I'm not sure about Dawes in for Pedersen or not. It really means little.

Please have mercy on our rubbish midfield Carlton

I'm not sure if dropping Davey or Watts is the right way to go, I would like to see Davey be assigned a role like tag Yarran or Betts.

You cant bring Sellar in for Watts. Watts would have to go forward and we would need smaller back line to handle their quicks Walker, Yarran, Betts, Gartlett etc.

Lets be honest the midfield is going to be smashed!

Carlton's speed is a worry.

Terlich will get Betts, but you have Yarran and Garlett to worry about, Will Blease get a job?

Does Fiztpatrick or Dawes come in to the expense of Pedersen ?

Viney will be in for sure and you might be looking at Magner if he gets evelated going head to head with a Brock McLean.?

Its going to be interesting to see who they pick and drop.

Stick Blease on Yarran, make the kid accountable.

I dont care if he learns a lesson, he needs to learn how to become a player.

Out: Pederson, Rodan

IN: Viney, Dunn

Give Toump one more week in the VFL.

Anyone saying that Sellar should be brought in needs to get real. He's a serious spud.

Next week in comes Toump and Dawes..

depends on his fitness. To me he just doesn't look right. Happy for him to stay or go depending on the clubs idea of his fitness. Problem is their really aren't any midfielders at Casey to replace him with. Nicholson just isn't disciplined or strong enough to tag. It's why I want Bail to do it.

a couple of big weeks coming up for McKenzie... he needs to build fitness.

I really wonder sometimes on this site. I also suspect that those who are so dogmatic about changes to the side have not seen both Casey and the farce up in Bribane.

For the last two week Casey have defeated very soundly two of the best sides in the VFL. I have seen all of both games live. There are some very promising signs coming out of the VFL for us, not least because Casey has a very sound coach who is not under the pump, has an outside job, and is very much a developer of young men and keeps it simple. I just fear what will happen to these immensely talented young men when they are promoted to the hothouse which is now the Melbourne Football Club.

Anyway, over the last two weeks the standout MFC players have been Fitzpatrick, Spencer, Dunn, Tynan and last week at Casey I for the first time saw Strauss really take on the field an showed some very strong breaking of the lines and finished off his excellent work with excellent kicking. In my view, even at 6'6" Fitzpatrick plays as much like a medium forward because he is so quick, but now that he at last is holding the difficult contested marks, and is showing real speed on the lead I think he has to come in at Full Forward, and Maxy goes to the pocket (who has by the way been a very pleasing revelation of the season so far). Spencer to the bench, and second ruck, but his form has been so totally dominant at Casey I would be tempted to put him in the starting line up in the centre square, and put Jamar to the pine (I predict with the emerging young guns in Fitzpatrick, Spencer and Gawn, this will be the Russian's last season in the red and blue. Why not trade him while he still has some value). Some will say this is too top heavy but playing both Fitzpatrick and Watts up forward you have two tall very mobile forwards. I think it gives the best of both worlds.

My team would therefore be:

FB: Terlich. Frawley. Garland

HB: Dunn. McDonald. Tynan

CC: Evans. Sylvia. Viney

HF Trengove. Watts. Byrnes

FF: Howe. Fitzpatrick. Gawn

Foll: Jamar. Grimes. Jones

Inter: Spencer. M Jones. Strauss. Sub: Bleese

In: Spencer. Tynan. Viney. Fitzpatrick. Dunn

Out: Pederson. Roden. Davey. Tapscott Bail

All in all, I believe a far better balanced and talented side

If we are rebuilding a rebuild we need to start to play players that are part of the future not the past Rodan, Pederson and Davey thanks but we need to look forward to 2014 and play players that need to be a part of the plan or players that are young that have to show something. Give them 4-5 weeks in the team, tell them this and if they can't show something bring in the next batch Kent, Fitzpatrick, Toumpas, Davis, MacDonald, Dunn, Couch, Taggart, Tynon, Bail and again give the 4-5 weeks and hopefully we can find a team that really gives us some sort of hope from 2014.

what a joke, how could you drop Bail.

He puts serious forward pressure and hits his tackles with intent.

Rewatch Melbourne and watch the way Bail tackles. He's a gun

He has good awareness, and is not the worst nor best decision maker in the team.

He took a reasonable shot at goal that he should have passed ONCE, so I don't know why you write it like it's plural.

I don't mind Bail taking shots at goal. He obviously learned a big lesson in the Collingwood game a couple of years back where being greedy would have won us the match. If it's close to the siren, take the shot rather than passing, because you never know when it's going to sound.

not the lesson I took from that piece of play. He over kicked that ball and Petterd just couldn't hold the mark. The lesson should've been practice and practice your kicks, do it some more the work out how to kick on your preferred side as well when pushed on to your left.

I'd keep Bail this week but its his last warning on selfish play. I'd rather him turn it over trying to pass now than blaze from 50 out

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
