Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Luke Tapscott - Another one of BP's Specials?

The criticism wasn't directed at the discussion of Tapscott. The criticism was leveled at the highly critical tone of the subject line.

If you want a discussion about Tappy, just say "where do you think Tapscott's at?". The present headline is as biased as a Range Rover poll title.

I am upbeat about this bloke. Having seen him at training he looks to be in great nick.

Excellent kick, physically strong - I am a bit optimistic about him breaking out in 2013.

Just needs a consistent run at it.

Some blokes just get a better run with things re injury than others. Gawn, Evans Taggert and Davis in the same boat to some degree. Would be more concerned re those that haven't had any injury and haven't fired a shot. Some get a crack over the weekend. Would be nice to see a couple stand up and move past the potential stage.

I recall about 18 months ago, when it appeared Dangerfield may be available, that a poster nominated Tapscott as the type of player we'd have to be prepared to let go to get Dangers over to MFC.

He was howled down by posters who thought he was untouchable.

Wonder what those same posters think now?

*The same person also proposed Petterd, with the same response.

You've got to be joking. Jeez there are some pedants about. BP has come in for a huge amount of criticism on this board for picking players who have not made it. If Tappy doesn't make it he can be added to that list. Therefore a reasonable thread titlke in my book. In any case he clarifies his position and it would appear was not overly cristical of Tappy and for me the tile is more a dig at BP, and as i said Osilik is not alone in bagging him.

So what if the thread title suggested Osilik might think Tappy is heading that way (- though it did include a question mark)? Most thread topics imply a position.

You don't label Demons failures (a BP 'special') in March without a few people saying WTF.

He didn't label Tappy a failure. He asked is there a risk he will become one. And to be honest there is. If he doesn't make it it will be yet another player BP selected who has not been able to cement a spot on a pretty average list.

I am not going to play semantic games about the language of Osilik - he is easier to read than The Brave Little Toaster.

He was implying he is a failure and he is doing it in March.

He has every right to do so, as do we when we say WTF.

Appreciate the backup but i am not too fussed about mild critiism of a thread title. Though it was intended to bring BP into the convo more then it has. 2 pronged title.

That said I do likr Tapscott as he does bring something to the squad when we are down, thgh sadly i am worried he will be one of those players that do struggle to kick it up to that extra level when in AFL.

I also think that his playing style makes him more injury prone then many other players and am concerned that Viney may be the same with the physicality he brings. It is hard to become a good player when you cant string a pre season and 10-15 games together

If you take Joel Selwood as an example there isn't much to worry about, he hardly misses any games.

Brace yourself for the "we should've picked up Nate Fyfe or Ryan Bastinac" posters.

I love Tappy. I would love for him to have a period of time where he has no injuries, and is given a specific role in the forward half, and given 6-8 weeks to show he can do it.

I hardly think that'll occur in relation to Tapscott. I remember the discussion pre draft in 2009, and no one thought Tapscott would be around by pick 18.

He was hardly a controversial pick - in fact, to the contrary, he was thought to be a bargain at the time. He may not ultimately make it, but he wasn't considered to be a strange choice at pick 18.

However, the likes of Strauss, Gysberts and Cook were thought to be slightly left field picks by BP at the time they were selected - hence, the discussion about those players often leads to "why didn't we pick [insert name of more obvious selection] at their pick".

Aside from those interested in self flagellation, I can't really think of a supporter who would be happy to trawl through our top 20 picks (for the most).

Besides, it's been more than done to death.

i may be wrong but i think chappy started his career as a mid-small forward with a small tank.....i see plenty of chappy in tappy

So you actually sound like a pretty happy chappie yourself.

Good topic this one. I was a big Tapscott fan from when we first drafted him up until about mid-last year. I have cooled quite a bit on him though, because he has done nothing of worth on the football field. I am still waiting............. He doesn't get it enough to have much of an impact. He showed some good signs against Adelaide in round 21? last year during the first quarter, but then did nothing afterwards (similar to the rest of the team though).

He needs to find consistency as well as consistent ball, but then again so does the rest of our team (i guess that's why we are where we are).

I love his size and he can be quite physical at times (which we all love) and would like to see more of it, all be it controlled. His hit on Reece Shaw was a thing of beauty, but other than that, he hasn't done too much else. Time for him to step-up or just be another could've-been.

My thoughts summised. Was big on Tappy until I realised that he had a decent run of games and did nothing except that one cameo on the forward 50 in Green's last game.

Well obviously people that bagged Cale have been proven completely correct, so that's a horrible example

how have they been proven correct? Because the club got rid of him? Cale is on a list... And still has a chance to prove his worth...

Wines is a tall bullish mid with a good tank. I can't understand your comparison. I don't see Tapscott as a whipping boy as I am not seeing criticism of his endeavour or courage purely that his output may not fit the pick we chose to use on him.

wines is not a tall mid...

At a touch over in the old terms 6'1" you could get away calling him a tall mid.

These are really good questions, but I maintain the view that they can only be answered through fitness and a good look over a number of weeks. His long kicking for mine means half forward or on the wing, but he has never demonstrated the engine to be a wingman. My one worry is his marking ability - for the life of me I can't remember one overhead mark, whereas Trengove, Jones, Howe, Grimes have all demonstrated this at varying levels.

Watch his first game again

Has a chance yes. I'd put my house on him not being given as many as he was given at Melbourne.

I think Cale will do very well at West Coast.....They have a lot of players that are inside ball winners ...He will do very well on the vast Pattersons Stadium......

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
