Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Herald Sun reports Gysberts to be shown the door...Neeld has gone mad!!!

Recommended Posts

You have an unhealthy obsession with events 40+ yrs ago, dee-luded. Nearly all your posts harp on this. And could you please include some more sweeping catch phrases?

Can I remind you that our coach (in fact I think none of our FD), our players and probably no one (except maybe only 1 or 2) employed by the club were EVEN BORN then.

How many times do you think these people refer to the current situation as having a direct link back to 1965? Do you think Neeld reads studiously through the MFC history documents from the 50's and 60's to find where we went wrong, looking for the cause of our current problems? I don't think so!

Yes, we haven't won a flag since 1964, but you are stretching a veeeeeeeeery long bow to link its cause back to 1965. It does not have relevance to Neeld getting the most out of Gysberts or his possible exit from MFC, which, I might add is still rumour.

We are the oldest club who wrote the rules. That's cute and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. But for a moment or two, let's forget about 1965 and focus on now and the years ahead.

I fully respect your passion and knowledge of the clubs history, but I have not seen a Melbourne flag and therefore, am looking firmly forward.

Well you may not like it, & you may prefer to live in thsi pigs wallow we've been since our Halcyon days. this sounds to me like you don't know how to become a tough unit.

Others have seen it, & some recognise how to get it back.. I don't think you do.

Barassi/Jordan set us up but finished before the Job was fully completed. Schwab recruiting & Swooper added the finishing touches to an already healthier club.

This club let it slip away yet again. SOFT at the Top.

He was fit for PS.

He has reasons for not being in shape in 2011, not 2012.

I was being a bit facetious but do we know for a fact that he struggled and didnt commit to PS'12? Seems he was coming from a VERY low base and was injured trough most of last year as well. I'm not saying we should keep him I'm just saying its pretty hard to have a crack at the guy when he's been injured most of the last 2 seasons. His main weakness as I see it is his lack of tank and speed. He can get to where the ball is now imagine if he builds his engine how damaging he might be. Unfortunately for us and for him I do t think we are in a position to wait around to find out whereas another club might be.

I think Ministry in their "Thieves, Liars" period would be a better choice although MCR is a nice alternative.......need a rap bit in the middle though....something along the lines

I could actually see that rant fitting nicely into Jesus Built My Hot Rod

I would think that Mark Neeld would be in the very best position to make decisions on players he deems to have a future in HIS plan going forward

There will be always someones favourite player in the mix of being delisted and that is generally caused by work ethic and not just talent

When Neeld arrived he made decisions on recruiting personal to help him

By the speed in which this was done it seems like he is all about actions and that is a pleasant change

There is no point in keeping players who just dont work hard enough

Let the opposition have them in their team

Football has changed and Neeld knows it and is changing with it

The first thing he noticed is that our list was unfit and lazy

At the end of every season clubs change their list and at Melbourne this looks like it will be a major change

I support him and the tough decisions he is about to and needs to make

I think much of the evidence needed is/was before us. There were any number of opportunities to play in our team this year for anyone who showed the right stuff.

But Neeld was unerring in his prerequisite of having bought in. Those who Didnt/hadn't /wouldn't simply got kept down til they figured it out.... or sought out.

Gys will go if a trade viable or wallow in the magoos til he sees the light.

Neeld did empower all his charges with at least one thing. Choice

Its been up to all to make their path.

ive been wrong before. I know that'll come as a shock lol.

Purely observational but it strikes me Neeld has a handful of non negotiables when it comes to his players. You either do or you dont with all of them. Players attempting to play these on THEIR terms get told rather bluntly how well this will work for them. Im guessing Gys doesn't fit the mould. Others do or have altered to do so.

Neeld doest have the time to be bothered with non conformality, nor should he.

Its his way ( as empowered by the club ) or the highway .

The Geelong Rd looks the go.

BB always like your input as it usually isnt all wrong

I agree with the premise that players must satisfy the coach especially when the coach has some time frames and results he must hit

But as someone else said I would prefer that some of his results include using the players skills we have not wholesale gut and further rebuild

but also i recall the old saying "is that true or did you read it in the herald sun" so maybe both of those concepts can be involved.

I am abit dubious of the game plan Neeld has but I am also happy to give him time to develop explain and use it.

I just hope he has more than one plan.

Dpos .. Im sure Neeld is all for plyers using theire skills and undoubtedly takes into consideration but Im thinking he wants workers. Skills alone wont cut it.

Still, well all know how clever our interpretive abilities are in a couple of months :)

I think I noticed a pattern.

First he typed something.

Then he pressed Enter.

Twice.

Then he typed something else.

Then he again pressed Enter.

Twice.

Then he did it again.

Not only was what he said funny.

The way he said it.

Was.

Funny.

Too.

Big rant and calling Petterd a superstar or close to is a bit extreme, however I get your jist. Neeld had me worried after his ridiculous round 1 press conference. The media didn't know how to react with his over the top calls and stupid expressions. Looked a man out of his depth and the only response was "he'll learn." To be fair he did, as he was a lot calmer in press conferences, but the thing that concerned me most was that he distanced himself from the playing group by lumping the whole result on the players. Does he realize that his job is to get the players to perform? He also said he doesn't want to put 'blind faith' in players. Wait he makes Trengove and Grimes captain neither having played much AFL footy, and although Grimes was okay this season, both failed to deliver to expectations. Claims that it was a decision made by the players, administration (wtf are they doing involved) and coaches. Funnily enough when it was coaches and players who elected the leadership group in 2011 Rivers and Moloney were both in it. Having finished top 2 in the b n f in 2011 surely they wouldn't be cut. Neeld needs to show that he can develop players and make them reach their potential. Make Gysberts follow Jones all pre season cause he can be a player. Instead Neeld is preoccupied with playing Sellar, not up to AFL, and Bate, why didnt we trade him to the dogs? His treatment of Stefan Martin is bewildering also. Dermott Brereton believes that he would have good trade value. Wouldn't surprise me if we traded him and kept Sellar. We better bloody improve!!!!!!!!

Gysberts came to PS training in awful shape. So did Blease.

Blease worked his arse off and was rewarded.

Gysberts didn't and his future is up in the air.

Face facts people: we are not in a position to let kids coast on our list.

The list will change - get over it.

But, but, RP, Gys was injured for most of the year.

(Nb. I agree with you - I'm taking the [censored] in this post).

In the following two photos one of these players has been on an AFL list for 3 years and the other has been part time for a year.

One is committed to being the best he can be and the other gets blown over in the wind.

One has endurance and the other sleeps with an oxygen mask.

One is quick and the other slow.

One is a culture changer and the other needs changing.

Both of these photos were taken on the same day this year.

One is 18 and the other 21.

I'll let you work it out Tex:

Does he realize that his job is to get the players to perform?

Is it ? Really ? A coach's job is to provide strategies /game plans and yes to teach them better ways and that includes developing who strive to perform. And yes, a certain amount of motivating. But I have had a gutfull of this cop-out "it is up to the coach to get players to perform".No siree -it is up to a player to get himself to perform. If you need a coach to get you to perform then you are not a professional sportsman. Saying you need the coach to get players to perform is a lazy [censored] cop-out.

That's ridiculous. Gysberts just had his jaw broken. I'm not a Gysberts fan, and I never have been. His kicking is sh!t and it always will be. I don't mind that he is delisted but if he is I'd want Morton and Watts to be also gone. Lets not make this a Watts thread but I do believe Gysberts deserves to stay on the list considering the before mentioned have squibbed so many contests wearing the demons guernsey yet Gysberts always went hard. I also was one of the only people here that never subscribes to the theory that we won out of the mclean trade. Mclean is a very good player and he has showed that this year. Those people that thought we won out of that trade are suspiciously quiet in this thread.

Ben- I dont subscribe to body build being a sign of laziness or poor culture. Some just cant put on weight. Even being slow is sometimes something that can only slightly be remedied. The line that really resonated with me though is "One is committed to being the best he can be..."

Nathan Jones lives that for me - sometimes not quick enough by hand or in the mind but his committment to being the best and striving to improve cannot be questioned.

I supported the theory we won out with pick 11 for McLean but I put the disclaimer in then and will repeat it now.McLean for that high draft pick was a good trade - McLean is not worth that pick 11. Our mistake (if he is delisted/traded and turns out to be a dud) was that we subsequently used the pick on Gys. The trading for a pick and the use of the pick are and were two different actions. If Carlton was given the opportunity to get rid of Brock at $400K and got pick 11in return they would do it in a heartbeat as we did back then.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
