Toumpas v Stringer v Wines

I have watched a considerable amount of TAC and if Stringer is available grab him. He will be the one that clubs say, 'should have grabbed'. Mate in Perth says that Jack Martin is being played down as well. We already have a Toumpas in Trengove. These two guys offer a point of difference imho

IMO we could afford to wait for an U-17 Key Forward (Hogan) to mature over say 3 Years, or even an U-17 small forward over 3,,,, But I don't think we can afford to wait any longer for new Mids to Impact within 12 months...

I think we need 3 Mids,,, to Go straight off the bat. (Toumpas/Wines/Stringer/Mayes@P3&4) + (Viney@2ndRndPick) & possibly (Boak+++/Mayes/Vlastuin/Colcuhoun/O'Rourke@Mid1stRnd-comp'P).

I'd absolutely love it if we got Hogan for down the track, coming on after Cook, Watts & Fitz'.

As for as smalls forwards go, a Kennedy could be a good choice?

He sounds like he's got a torn labrum due to a hip impingement. That shouldn't affect his speed, but he could be protecting it.

Of itself, a torn labrum would not affect his speed but there are circumstances where it would such as if he feels pain or simply, the psychological aspect of fearing possible pain or additional damage. If the player did have good speed and/or endurance prior to the injury then it's reasonably certain that he will not lose these attributes once he recovers from surgery. Based on that I would not put him in the same category as Jack Trengove who also appears of late to be hampered by injury and who is not known anyway for his pace but has good endurance (like his sister who is an Olympic distance runner). Even with his injury, Toumpas appears to have better pace. However, in SA he is, like Trengove, renowned for his leadership capability.

The beauty of having three picks in the first 12 -13 is alot of clubs will not be able to risk a pick on a Stringer (returning from injury), Menzel (injury prone), Plowman (missed U18 champs) or Garlett (questionable attitude) when they only have one dart to throw. Assuming Viney goes second round and we retain all three picks give me Toumpas (clearly the best on what I saw), one of Mayes, Martin (MD), Wines, O'Rourke and then one of the questionables with our third.

I'd read a bit about him on forums leading up to the championships, so kept an eye on him, but was a little underwhelmed. He looks a solid player, but he didn't seem to have any stand-out attributes. That said, I agree that a sample of only a couple of games isn't nearly enough.

You look at Toumpas and he just reeks of class. He's already got a strong body, his endurance is excellent, he reads the play well, he has good outside speed, he moves with the type of poise that the classy players have, and he's really smart with his decision making. That kick into the forward 50 where he made his teammate run forward to a hole, as opposed to kicking it to where he was, told you that he makes great decisions under pressure. Toumpas will play virtually all of 2013 as a 19 year old, where as Trengove played his entire first year as an 18 year old. Toumpas would impact our side immediately.

Imagine Toumpas, Stringer, Mayes and Viney walking into the club over summer. Or if we could trade for Boak using pick 12/13 you may have Toumpas, Stringer, Boak and Viney wandering through the door. You start changing your club's on-field prospects immediately.

Yes, I know him reasonably well. He did his knee mid season and never performed to the same level as earlier in the year. Played mostly ruck later in the year also. Recruiters didnt want to take any risks with him as obviously there was a big go home factor. Was very skillful when ball was in his area but never chased or tackled and moped around when things didnt go his way. Class talent though.

Apparently Vlastuin was carrying an ankle injury into the Champs, so was limited to playing half back. Really noticed him against SA in one passage of play where he pressured the ball carrier, got the smother, got straight back up and delivered a 50M pass for a teammate to run onto. Very competetive and good skills. Read that his coach compared him to Vossy (I'm presuming it isn't just because he has red hair).

With his reduced involvement due to the calf problem, his output is a bit down, probably in the 8-15 range now. He could bolt back up with a good TAC Cup finish.

We need impact players, not - for want of a better word - "jack-of-all-trades" types.

Must say I was a bit underwhelmed by stringer at etihiad.

My utoipia would be toumpas at 3 (absolute jet), wines at 4 (imagine him lining up with viney at centre bounce next year) and viney second round.

Undecided about second compo but either boak or mini draft hogan or martin. Vlaustiun or kennedy (could he be the small forward we are so desparate for - looked really good the other day) are other options.

Toumpas would be brilliant. We need class, skill, and a bit of pace in the midfield. He provides this and is noted for his leadership also. We're building a good young group of leaders now and he'd add to that.

Undecided on our other early pick if we get the benefit of using it on someone other than Viney. I don't believe Stringer fits our team, and he's had injury problems and hasn't performed at the level required for a first round ick in a while now. We need pure mids, enough with utility players. Not sure who the other best midfield options are other than Whitfield and Wines.

Would love to grab a small forward like kennedy or Garlett with our mid first round pick if we can. We desperately need some pace, agility, crumbing and defensive pressure up forward. This should be next priority after quality mids.

I like WInes, he reminds me of Dustin Martin - very dual sided and a real competitor.

To say he doesnt have any stand out attributes is probably due to the fact that he does everything -

and does everything right, much like Dustin Martin before he got drafted.

Wines and Viney will tear up any midfield in years to come, they are beasts,

they hunt the packs like animals and thats what I want to see.

I dont want to see another Cale Morton, Id prefer to see a Joel Selwood.

I dont want a Kruezer, Id rather a Cotchin.

I think we have some good draft options as well. Our list management group will appreciate the great need to get it right with ready to go 'bolt ons' this time. Whilst the future under 17's sound exciting as they always do and as good as they obviously are, I'm not sure we have the luxury of waiting for them this year.

Wines has been said to be similair to Viney.

We have plenty of grunt as it is so I would prefer to go with a combination of players who can bring different dynamics to the team.

3. Toumpas, 4. Stringer, 13. Garlett and 26 Viney for me.

Dont bother pissing around with u17's I think.

Stringer is a risk at 3/4.

I would love Garlett around 12-13, exactly what we need.

My favourite out of the draft - other than Oliver Wines - is Ben Kennedy from SA.
