Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Toumpas v Stringer v Wines

I've always thought Stringer could be the best of his draft year, there was so much upside for him.

I hope we can identify someone with upside this year but as 'Macca' says, the draft is a bit of a raffle.

Many clubs were wary because he broke his leg? Or something similar?

Anyhoo......moving right along....

My God I am so sick of this

This is a shining example of just how stupid all you draft revisionists are

Black went at pick 31. That means every club overlooked him twice before Brisbane got him

But for some reason we 'should' have been able to magically see a champion 31 picks deep

If we could just see into the future and pick the best player at every pick we would have won 20 flags in a row FFS

and how do you even know if players would have developed in the same way at the MFC? You can't know, nobody can

How can your sense of basic reasoning fail you so badly

You are right C and B.

The real problem however is in us picking duds. Not only that, but picking duds with very high picks.

It is not that we didn't take Joe Blow, who became a champion, but rather having most of the draft to select from we chose duds.

Shouldn't the OP now be changed to Stringer vs Wines? We can add Toumpas back in at a later date if he decides to compete.

I reckon Toumpas is almost certainly trying his absolute best.

Right now, he's just not that good a player. He may get better with maturity but who knows?

Many will continue to judge him according to his draft pick number but I'm left wondering why so many still have so much faith in drafting high school age kids.

Toumpas is clearly trade bait, and has very little value.

Third round pick, at best, or part of a package you'd expect.

Almost contradictory isn't it? I doubt Toumpas would attract much interest at all at this stage, even as part of a package.

I don't see the point of trading Toumpas now. He's worth nothing on the trade table. There's a chance, albeit a slim one, that he could start showing some consistent form next year. He's showed signs so far I guess but not much more than that. Might as well keep him for next year and delist after that if he doesn't make the best 22.

Ever club passed over Chris Grant multiple times, like they all did with James Hird, who, as a player, was fantastic.

I don't really give a crap about the old debate going one here: what is done is done, but I so so soooo love that it's almost mandatory when talking about Hird as a footballer to add an asterix next to his name.

Anyway. Carry on.

Toumpas could be a bit like Ben Jacobs for North - joined a poor side, was gifted games in which he made a litany of errors and looked miles off the pace, and has taken til he's four seasons and a different role at a different club to come on.

Was also a first round pick (albeit late, in a weak and diluted draft).

I can't see Toumpas making it at Melbourne.

I find it an interesting stat that Hird was taken so late in the draft, but it also shows that the focus on the draft has probably changed a lot since that era.

It's a fact that as soon as their name is called out and they join that club, the number they were taken means very little to nothing. But the media and often us supporters won't forget that.

Anyway moving on we have a pick 57 debuting this week. He might be a gun and we can all comparing him to the 56 selected before him....

Pick 53, just like his brother.

I agree. Cut him loose, have a second dip at the draft. Probably get a second round pick. There will be a very good player around that mark, there nearly always is. Fyfe, Rockliff, Parker, Sloane, Shuey, Touk Miller, Lewis Taylor, just some of the names taken outside of the first round. I like Lovell. I'd love to get that kid.

I'd keep him and I reckon he'll come on next year, he reminds me of Thompson just before he went back to Adelaide.I can't see value of trading for peanuts when we've kept and still keep lots of peanuts on our list. They even promoted a few to the squad against freo.

He is nothing like Thompson was, other than the coach didn't play them.

For me, the question is whether or not our much vaunted development team which now includes McCartney, can get Jimmy up to consistent AFL level or, whether the damage has been done.

In my opinion, the onus, and the challenge, is with the MFC development coaches.

The draft takes babies and hopes they become superstars, and then we are so harsh on those kids when they don't.

All teams have hits and misses playing this lottery, and we really shouldn't blame a kid for a recruiter for not having a perfect crystal ball

if only Roos had arrived a year early... he'd have taken the big bodies over Toumpas and Wines or Stringer would be likely ours.

A pretty fair chance we wouldn't have traded for Hogan either though 'hogan'...Roos apparently is not keen on drafting talls.

As much as I desperately want Jimmy to make it, he just doesn't have football smarts, makes stupid mistakes, too slow for the game!!

Looking at the ins for sunday

The Toumpas card has been marked

What a waste...

Whilst his cards may be marked, its nothing to do with selection this week seeing as he missed last weeks VFL game as he was recovering from concussion.

Dean Kents cards must be marked also as he is not playing

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
