Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack Watts was pretty disappointing, and I really don't want to see Jamie Bennell in the side until he learns how to either get more possessions or become significantly more accountable.

Spot on.

Bennell is looser than a cheap street corner hooker.

Got to find a purpose in the team, other than running really fast only to miss the ball.

And now for the million dollar question...

Were we playing for real or did Neeld use this as an extra practice match and have them running specific styles/drills/plans for the different halves? I ask this because there was such a marked shift in the style of play in the last half aagainst Brisbane. It sounded like they freed up the running players and attacked far more. Did anyone notice if there were obvious changes in theme from half to half (to half to half)?

I wonder what MN has in store for us next week?

Ok first hit out for the season - absolutely terrible conditions - I don't think we should be to critical on our performance. We need to lower our eyes when we have the footy and not blaze away - I would hate to be a forward out there tonight with are delivery. So go easy on watts effort .... I thought he chased and harassed well against Brisbane. Positives bate grimes magner

some of you people here seriously need to neck up! first of all the conditions were atrocious! did not suit our talls and skills were yes not that flash. 2nd its going to take us a couple of games to get our game plan up to scratch! dont expect for them to waltz onto the field and bang get it right first up! i actually found more positives then negatives tonight. and 3rd wtf is with comments like '' we are in for another long sufferiing year, or bring back bailey!! FFS its the first game of the year and a chance to blow out the cobwebs and gets some games and miles into most of the players!

Gosh there are seriously some rosey eyed people on this forum...

Ha! This is going to be a funny year on Demonland.

Get used to watching games like that. Everyone was so keen to get a defensive coach, but as soon as they see us playing defensively they are gobsmacked.

We will hug the boundary, focus on stoppages and strangle the opposition. Honest players will play before silky players and we will have low possession numbers and low mark numbers because of our style.

Get used to it.

It has not stopped raining on the Gold Coast, since Noah disembarked the Ark , We lost the first game by a bees appendage and won the second by the same margin. What we saw tonight was a coach who was willing to make changes when necessary, back a bloke like Bate- I love Matter for what he has been through and how is he has survived - and Neeld not giving too much away to achieve a par score.

Fasten your seat belts Dees, we're in for one hell of a ride. A damn good ride,

Fantastic signs, brilliant tough grinding hit out in the RAIN. Should add to our fitness. Bate & Magner just what we need. Loved Nicho's game.

Hate the format and some of the rules.

Positives - Magner, Bate,Tynan, Clarke, Sellar, Grimes,Jones

Negatives - Game plan??? Martin(Good 2nd ruckman, not a forward) Watts, sure will get better. Hail Mary long bombs

All in all a wet preseason game, which didnt tell us much except their hunger was ok,game plan needs work, and some new recruits did very well.

I suspect if you put the best players from both teams and add Blease, Trengove,Jurrah,Tapscott etc, we may have something.

The fact we won the second game might say something about our new level of fitness which may play to our advantage in proper 4 quarter games

Bate was excellent . Thank goodness we didn't trade him . Huge positive . Grimes looked good as well . Liked the look of all our new players and Nicho and Bail had a dip .

Our 2nd half was quite good considering it was our "4th" half . We ran the game out well . Thought our attack on the ball was quite good .

It looked like the players were under instruction to get the ball forward quickly by foot . Thought we had more time to dispose of it properly but it took until the 2nd half of the 2nd game to do so .

All in all a reasonable effort . The positives being our new players . Sellar's courageous effort was somehow paid the other way .

Cheers

My uncles best mate who's a bookie (25 years), said if a VFL/AFL team doesn't play a proper practice match (of four qtr's with score's) pre-season, then they're stuffed for the remaining of the year.

Wow! Really? A real life bookie? Must be the truth then.

I'm realistic! We have a long, long way to go - people here need to recognise that - be critical, but be fair, constructive, and comment from observation, not from someone else's commentary. (I've already broken my New Year's resolution not to comment for 12 months!)

And we will be so much better at it without the out of bounds rule that applies to this competition.

OK, so having listened to the SEN coverage, I can draw the following conclusions from tonight:

Sellar is worth what we paid and will be a useful addition to the team.

Magner is a machine and aill probably play most games this season.

Bate is going to be much better this year and looks like being our new midfield workhorse.

Clark presents well but may need to work on his kicking.

We need to be willing to use the corridor when we have the advantage rather than squandering said advantage by continuing to work the boundary.

Our mids need to spot up leading forwards rather than bombing to the hot spot every time.

Our forwards need to create space and lead so the mids can spot them up rather than bombing to the hot spot every time.

Bennell can't be trusted in the backline.

Grimes is going to be fine once he gets his confidence back.

If Watts contines to play like this he's going to be traded.

Have I missed anything?

I prefer Bennell from wing forward but no further back. I can't see why he can't be our small forward.

HAHA, we won by 3 points. Brissie with a shot just on the final siren missed, a lot similar to us in the first game.

Haven't seen any of it and tried SEN on internet but of course Vlad has hijacked it again unless you pay his fee.

Still, we have made history I believe - the only team to win after playing the previous game.

To those who saw it - did they hug the boundary? Was there any noticeable difference in "system" (if any)?

Does anyone know why Sellar didn't get that free for high hit at 10 minutes in second half. He was actually hit in the head twice and the Fox Footy boys were stunned, as was I, after seeing the replay.

considering his opponent got the free , makes the non decision even more boggling

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
