Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Beamer the next captain, JT, Grimes, Rivers and Jamar all to be in the leadership group. JT is still too young for me and Grimes needs to focus on his fitness. Long term I see JT or Grimes as the long term option.

JT for me

he is everything that the current leaders are not.

For starters he deserves to be in the team.

Grimes I am afraid has a brittle body.

He will not be on the field enough to justify the captainesy.

Give me the kid..... JT for the next decade

All class on and off the field (with a little bit of mongrel mixed in (wanted to use the c word but withheld) something the curent leaders lack). Carey got the gig at 21 - grew with the role, Jack will too

With a new coach coming in next year, Green will still be captain.

Beamer, Good times will be his successor the following year.

To be captain you have to have a contract to play.

Green is out of contract at the end of 2011 I believe.

He may not be at the Dees next year!

Jonesy for mine. Captains should lead by example and don't need to be the best player in a team. The extra responsibility of the captaincy can't taint effort and from what I've read, he prepares well for games and would be a fantastic influence on the youngens

JT is certainly captain material but to be a captain at his age and experience you need to be dominating to justify the placement.

Joint captains so we stop this terrible situation of our older players feeling unwanted.

Its time as a club we did things differently sometimes our thinking is limited.

so Green, Rivers and Moloney. Vice captains Trengove, Grimes and Jones.

x2

Would love to see JT as skipper, but I think it is just a bit soon, and I would hate to see it upsetting his development. He has plenty of time.

If we have joint captains it is because Trengove needs help.

I don't want to see our NQR 'senior' player share their inadequacies as captains.

And your first line grates with me...

'This terrible situation of our older players feeling unwanted.'

Why do we care if they feel this way?

They were given the leadership of the club and they have failed totally, destructively.

I don't care if they complain to the board - it is evident that the FD is right to push the younger talent ahead of the older players.

I have said this often - we have to move toward our future, and give them the reigns. The older players can stay and contribute, but they have failed to drive this club and this club has got to get past them.

This poll is flawed as I am uncomfortable giving Frawley the captaincy by himself.

But he is the only one under 24 I would consider to have the captaincy all to himself.

Adding some shared captaincy scenarios would be good. Grimes, Frawley and Trengove etc.

This ^^

JT is all class and poise.. You sense the others will follow him.

He'll need a nuggety platoon sgt to help... and Beamers his man

I'vebeen on the JT Bandwagon since he arrived, and concerned about the scull dog since the same time.

But still I think we should, in a development year Install Moloney for at least one Year.

In a Year where we will not only still be deep into development, But also desperately trying to Eradicate our physical softness and being intimidated, Next year is a big year for us. IMO I'd like to see a Tough lead physically by example player who can show the youngsters that we can play hard, Onfield!

After 2013/14 I'd hope it would be Up to Trenners or similar.

Beamer is our Richie Vandenburg.. Next year is Line in the Sandbox time.

Trenners, Watts or Frawley long term. Just a year too early for them given the nonsense off field. If the club was more settled, i'd be more willing to consider one of them slotting in long term next year.

Moloney for next year to fill the void and take the heavy load in a year which is going to have some pretty high expectations to carry.

I love his brute force 'never die wondering' style and his tackles which almost always stick. And his love of the Demons and jumper.

Just wish he'd correct that up n under 'hail mary' kick he puts in sometimes. I'd thought he'd shaken it last year and earlier this year, but it seems to be creeping back into his repertoire again of late.

FWIW.... watching him carefully on Sunday, i also feel he's just lacking that bit of agility/speed in the legs imo. Could be the effects of a long season. But this aspect is even more critical on better quality opposition who tend to have this mobility/speed of execution aspect in their top end players right to the end of most games. Just looks a tad top heavy for mine atm.

Hopefully the FD can get him to lose a kilo or 3 up top (not sure he'd be too happy being asked to ) and lighten/quicken him up a little in the legs/running area. Might assist in making a few extra contests and speed up his execution a touch too, especially late in the game. We need big bodies like his around the ball, not questioning that, but it's a pretty big frame for him to carry for 4 long quarters.

Trengove would be the youngest-ever AFL captain. He turns 20 on the 2nd September ... if he was appointed at the end of January (like Green was this year), he'd be 20 years and about 150 days. That's very young, probably too young.

Previous youngest captains:

David Dench (North Melb), 20 years 221 days, 1972

Haydn Bunton (Fitzroy), 20 years 299 days, 1932

Kevin Dynon (North Melb), 21 years 249 days, 1947

Michael Voss (Brisbane), 21 years 272 days, 1997

Wayne Carey (North Melb), 21 years 303 days, 1993

I think who ever will be announced senior coach will have a say in the captaincy.

I also think we've come to a fork in the road regarding the captaincy (and for that matter the LG). Tbh I haven't the faintest of who will be captain in 2012. There's what I would like to see happen from a personal point of view - and I hope the club shares that view, then there is what will transpire.

The list has a big gap between the senior players and the youngsters (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th year players). Aside from the incumbent (30, 239 games), we have of the current LG - Brent Moloney (27, 128 games), Aaron Davey (28, 150), Nathan Jones (23,112), Jared Rivers (26,126), Jack Grimes (22, 32).

Other potential LG candidates are:

James Frawley 22, 80 games

Colin Garland 23, 56 games

Mark Jamar 28, 108 games

Jordie McKenzie 21, 35 games

Tom Scully 20, 30 games

Colin Sylvia 25, 121 games

Jack Trengove 19, 35 games

Jack Watts 20, 38 games

I'm hoping that the senior coach will be bold enough and decisive enough to make the necessary changes that will see strong leadership. If they opt for sweeping changes with youth, so be it, I'll support it. How that would work out or who I'm not sure. Although if Watts, Frawley or Trengove (or both) took it up at their current age, wow. I'd be happy.

That said, I have since expressed elsewhere that of the incumbent LG that I believe J.Rivers has stood up consistently throughout 2011, whilst others have been inconsistent, stripped of VC or missing (Note: that Jones has been ok), and that I'd support Rivers as a captain with the likes of Frawley, Garland, Trengove, Watts & McKenzie/Scully surrounding him, until a new young captain be appointed. Most likely in the form of Trengove or Watts when they're 22-24.

edit: All that said, returning to my first comment in this post, if the new coach does indeed have a say, there would still be a chance for BG to go around another year as captain, before a change of captain to the youth of Trengove, Watts or a Frawley. But I would be disappointed in such a stance.

He may not be at the Dees next year!

Surely management would not make the same mistake again and let a senior player go! Especially a one year captain.

He still has plenty to offer this group of players as a leader, he'll get a 1-2 year contract.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
