Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ok, so everyone knows that Dean is gone and Viney is the caretaker for the time being.

We also know that it is an experianced coach that we're after.

Of the people that may be available, who would you like to coach the MFC?

Malthouse is still up in the air whether or not he'll be at Collingwood next year and with Eddie talking about legal action to whoever tries to poach him, i think it'd be unlikelt that he will be coaching Melbourne next year. Although it is public knowledge that he does rate our list.

Eade is a good chance if the Dogs decide to go a different path.

Clarkson too, if the Hawks get rid of him. I'm not sure why they would though.

Matthews i believe has been out of the game too long.

Laidely, well, i was never really that impressed when he was coaching north.

Roos has stated that he won't coach again.

Craig i believe is a good teacher like Bailey, but we need someone with some balls.

Choco is the one that for some reason i like the idea of coaching the Dees. Always liked him as a tactition and match day coach and has the balls to rip into and demand better from the players.

Of those listed above i believe that Choco and Eade are the ones that are a good chance to coach the club. Everyone would love Malthouse, but i believe that this would be unlikely.

Who do you guys think would be the ideal coach? Who do you think we'll likely end up with? And what do you want to see in our new senior coach?

I think the club should move Heaven and Earth to try and get Clarkson. He seems a progressive thinker, is an ex player and has the toughness that is required for our lot. A pretty good fit IMO ,however he will be a tough one to land.

Yip ... we need to do what it takes.

I agree with you re. Clarkson...but i don't see why Hawthorn would move him on. He'll most likely still be the head coach of the Hawks next year.

He has not signed a contract ... thats their problem not ours. We have a huge opportunity to offer him 3-4 years, which I doubt Hawks will offer without success. I have a feeling they want MM.

Clarko is one of us ... lets move on him now.

Why can't we have both? Haven't we moved on from our days of debt?

I hope we could given how better off we are financially but I wonder how much it would cost to snap up Clarkson or Malthouse for 2012 and beyond...surely it will cost a lot of coin.

Trust me...i'd be very happy to see that happen. Although i think the group of players that he has developed and won a flag with would be his main priority....not the club he used to play for.

Malthouse I doubt we can afford.

Clarko maybe on an extended deal we would look attractive. Could easily be a 10 year coach if all goes well. Our list is young and ready to ripen ... we have done the hard work for a rebuild.

All the best to Dean

Yes i believe we need 1 of them. Malthouse would be my no.1, but he will be hard to get, especially when Collingwood are putting up barriers to fend off other clubs.

Eade and Williams would be perfect fits for us both have been involved with successful teams and both have a bit of agro bout them.

Clarkson would be a good fit but why would you leave the Hawks when they are still a chance to wing a flag in the next 2-3 years????

Question is ... How close does he think he is? Collingwood & Geelong still look the goods over the next few years.

Can he position us to be their successor?

Our coach for 2012 will be Brenton Sanderson or Mark Neeld, both are outstanding assistant coaches, both have come from succesful sides, both understand the modern game and both are men capable of growing with our side as our side continues to grow.

Rocket Eade. 80% of the list need a rocket so we need an old school, no beating around the bush style coach i feel. At very least, someone who lets the players know in no uncertain terms exactly what is required of them every time they pull on the red/blue.

Viney could be this man though?

Viney should NOT be appointed Melbourne's permanent coach. That statement has nothing to do with his tactical skills, his determination, his Melbourne FC loyalty or his experience.

It would be inappropriate for him to be coach at the same time as his son joins the playing list. It would form a conflict of interest (and emotions) that neither father or son should be expected to have to cope with. That conflict will eventually become a media issue which will destabilise the club. Nothing surer.

This thread started with the understandable premise that we want an experienced coach, however what if an acceptable one isn't available? We would then have to look at possible current assistants ready to step up.

I am prepared to put forward some names which others can add to - (Burns has probably ruled himself out), our own Viney, Neeld, Sanderson, Goodwin (if available?) ...

I do believe that regardless of who is coach, they must have the very best assistants - assistants do an enormous amount of the work and there are more of them at successful clubs in various roles than most people realise.

Agree. We will try on the others but I can't see it happening. Maybe Roos...

There is absolutely no reason why Todd Viney could not coach his son.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
