Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack is also a left footer, we have no one in our midfield that is a left footer. Can someone tell me of the other top 5 young midfielders that will be drafted at years end that are left footers.

Viney would just be the right player that Neeld would love to coach I reckon and Neeld would know exactly what he is getting. I cant wait to round 1 next year.

I agree with this. Also you could see Neeld was seething about the hits on him and i'm guessing the players would have been also. He is one of the boys, part of the team already and this is a huge factor i reckon, in terms of team dynamics and culture. When he plays his first game for the dees there will be none of the "getting to know" the: team, systems, vibe etc or need to earn respect (he's done that already) that most other new recruits have to deal with. He'll be ready to go and it will be like he has always been around.

I think with Viney we can see he will be a good player. Perhaps he doesn't have the tricks or potential of some others in the next draft, i wouldn't know. But surely a premium must be put on the fact that we can pretty bloody confident he will make it, is a dee already and has the sort of toughness and dare i say it intensity we so desperately need.

To an extent it goes to the argument about picking the best player or the one who best meets your needs. In this case he meets our needs and i for one would love to see a player at the dees who goes 100% at contests and causes the sort of angst amongst opposition players (in his first game against men) that sees a veteran AFL player in his final year risk getting reported and sitting out games.

Horse's for courses and we need this horse.

If we finish higher on the ladder we get a bargin for Viney but our compo pick won't be as good. If we finish bottom 3 we may pay overs for Viney but our compo pick becomes a lot better... Take your pick?

Keep developing the side and win as many games as possible, the draft is irrelevant we are taking Viney and forget the rest for now

This is not my idea. i saw it on this article in the first comment.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/draft-joust-to-secure-jack-viney/story-e6frf9jf-1226349309807

but yeah, considering apparently the compo picks can't be used for the father-son rule, what if we traded our pick 3 for a player of high quality (such as the much discussed dangerfield) and then we get to use the 2 compo picks and get viney at a steal in the 2nd round. Not my idea but i saw it and wanted to share it with you guys?

Hadn't thought about that one. That would work brilliantly....yes?

Are people here thick? Its been said 824927 times that trading is done after the f/s bid. How on earth will we trade for dangerfield with a pick thats already used on viney?

Father son bidding Is done before trade week. If somebody bids for Jack we can then decide to either match the bid with our first round pick or pass him onto the team that bids. Once we've decided to take him with our first round pick Its set In stone, therefore we wouldn't be able to use that pick to trade. I hope that makes sense?

Viney does look great

Though i will be disappointed if we pay overs.

Yes i know his been in the system 2 yrs blah blah blah, but overs is OVERS!!

if his worth the pick then take him, if he isn't worth it then we shouldn't take him. This is a superdraft.

Also i don't know why people think that its ok coz we have the compo pick, well we lost a #1 draft pick for this compo! so its not a freebie.

I think people are annoyed because we all hate GWS for what they did to us with Scully and we're over being screwed by them, but at the end of the day we are going to get a top quality kid who is going to be that far ahead of anyone else drafted this year it's not funny. He'll be as ready made as Trengove is now.

The best "screw you" we can send Sheedy is Viney smashing Scully into next week when we play each other next year.

Maybe we've dodged a bullet with Scully, the $6 million man for whom you currently wouldn't give $600,000. The compo picks may be far more useful.

Please tell me how on earth you can decide whether a so-far undetermined pick is 'overs' for Viney.

Don't recall claiming that was a fact champ, simply using it as an example as the type of deal that could be made with either GWS or GC to ensure they don;t nominate Viney.

Thanks for clearing that up then.

Champ.

Argh!!! You are so frustrating!!! Stop contradicting yourself- Viney is worth our first round pick. Whether we have pick 10, 5 or 1- Viney is worth it. We CANNOT pay "OVERS" for Viney as he is invaluable to us! How can you not understand that no matter what number the pick we use on Viney ends up being, we will not be paying overs?

He is solid, and he is already a demon. Get this "overs" notion out of your head. And nobody thinks anything is "ok coz we have the compo pick," we all realise this is a seperate issue.

pick 1 IS potential overs, for sure

*unless viney is rated the bets player in which case it isnt

right now Whitfield is rated that though

and to clarify i think pick 3 is his value, people are only upset because we wont gain the small possibility of getting him at 20 which is massive, wait for it......unders

Read rpfc's post about why we won't have to pay Pick 1 under any circumstance, even if we had it.

Pick me! Pick me!

Ok, we need at least 3 elite mids with clearance skills, elite decision making, pace and pinpoint disposal. On top of that we also need at least 2 small forwards with pace and defensive awareness who can also snag a goal.

From there we could do with a 6ft5 CHB gorilla. Sellar need not apply.

Viney is a good start though.

I've never said, or tried to imply that he was the only type of player needed. I try to avoid stating the bleeding obvious. But games of footy are won in the midfield and it's the area that most needs fixing.

well aware of the bidding process, was replying to someone who said 1 wouldnt be overs as Viney is that good ect, i am just saying he isnt the outright best player so isnt the 1 even if we could use it on him.

Don't know much about Whitfield.......Is he better than Viney????? Scully??????

At least we know what Viney is a very good hard nosed player that will get is own ball and is not afraid to mix it with anyone and has skills we need at the moment.

Thats ok. I wasn't trying to imply that you did but after re-reading I can see how you thought that. I for one am rapt to be getting Viney. As I said, he is a good start to our re-rebuild.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
