Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hutchy predicts Dees to make Prelim 'or better' in 2011

Look i never thought i'd post something like this but in a 'tweet' a few hours ago, Craig Hutchison said we'd finish top 4 or better this year.

I can't do the link thing but his twit name is @craighutchy. Says our back half will be the key.

Whilst i may not agree (but happy to see), i thought a few people might be interested.

Love the optimism, but with all due respect to Hutchy, people who know our list intimately know those expectations are unrealistic for 2011, but may be realistic 2012 or 2013 onwards.

Next year we have the following players in our best 22 who have 50 games or less experience: Bail, Garland, Grimes, Morton, Bennel, Jurrah, McKenzie, Petterd, Scully, Trengove, Watts, Wonaeamirri.

That's 11 of our best 22.

Outside of our best 22, only Bate and J.MacDonald have > 50 games experience. The remaining 15 others all have less than 50 games, and are almost all less than 21 years old!

Do we have the talent on our list? Yes, most certainly. Do they have the afl-level bodies and experience required to come top 4 in 2011? Probably not. Add 40 games and 2 more pre-seasons and we'll be rock-n-rolling!

funny, because on xmas day my uncle said exactly the same thing hutchy did, and i scoffed at him, so we have put a tatts ticket on it.

i predict we will finish anywhere between 10 - 7

Is he that guy who stalked Ben Cousins when he went to LA to go to rehab?

The guy spends half his life in New york these days.

If you believe him you have a serious case of wishful thinking.

8th place I think would be around the mark for the Dees in 2011.

We are still a very young side with a lot of players who have not proved they can make it at AFL level.

there is a lot of optimism coming from the melb players at the moment...something that has been missing for a long time...where this translates to in terms of this year is another story.

if you read the article about trengove wanting to be a one club player...that is an example of a young player having belief that he's going to be part of something big...he wants to be a melbourne premiership player...

I'd be disappointed if we don't get 12 wins this year - which will get us into the 8.

To make the prelim or better? Wow.

Must be a case of post new years eve hangover?

No he was not in Brisbane!

However you can get a drink in New York I believe

It's not out of the question. Look at the baby Bombers of '93. We are a young talented side full of running and a lot of players who are used to winning in their junior teams. They will be confident and take the game on. With the dream draw we've been given and a good injury run we can scare the hell out of the rest of the competition this year.

Agree.

We should surprise this year.

Hutchy's schtick is to be provocative........any suggestion that he is an expert on the actual GAME of football and the prospects of its participant teams is RIDICULOUS ! Chasing and spreading rumour and goss is his go !

If Liam Jurrah plays a full season in our forward 50 then it could be worth a few Dollars on Hutchy's call.

Looking at all those sides in the round 1 2011 thread, we have amazing talent potential, Jonesy is only 22.

I watched the Swans 2010 game yesterday as i was O/S for that one. Now it is only one game, but that is the form we want to aim for in the next decade.

I think 5-8 is more realistic, but if this side gets on a 1987 style roll. Look out

We need Luke Tapscott in that senior team, potential Rocket that kid. B)

Hold me to this. Demons to make prelim or better in 2011.

@Tingas75 tis the new era in afl of youth. Younger success is happening

@craighutchy Can you see J Watts and L Jurrah tearing it to shreds this year?

@CJArmstrong15 yes watts jurrah but back half is key could be leagues best

Just some interesting tweets. Not something to take too seriously, but I like to know how the opposition (or football public in general) regard us.

And this one particularly took my fancy:

@craighutchy think your call on the dees is right on. As a pies supporter they r the only team that genuinely worry me in 2011.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
