Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks boys. Wow what a game. A fairytale season from start to finish.

Unbelievable.

You'll rewatch this game at least 5 or 6 times this week alone!

I thought you had the system to work with him but he has exceeded all expectations.  By a Street!

He exceeded them by about half time. Unbelievable. Will be talked about for years and years. The D didn't really even show up like usual. It was really Foles and the offense.

The Pats defense was below ordinary as well ... and that's on the Eagles offense and coaching staff.  When was the last time the Pats defense was below ordinary in a playoff game?  Never is my answer.

And what about the coaching performance of Doug Pederson?  Loses his franchise QB and then flips things about like Belichick might do.

That's one for the ages.

The offensive numbers for the Pats were through the roof ... any other time they win with those numbers but the simple fact is that Foles and his offense outduelled Brady & his counterparts.

Yup. That's really the size of it.

The play at the end of the first half was incredible. Foles CATCHING passes.

I'm a fan, but jeez. I can't see us getting anywhere near Giants or Cowboys... and probably struggling against Skins TBH.

Man of little faith Dappa. Always certainties to win the Division!

Now if you told me they won an epic shootout with the Pats in the Superbowl I'd never have believed you! I still can't believe it happened.

Later on we can all have a chat about what happens with the whole Wentz/Foles thing but for now - enjoy the moment and celebrate!

As Bill Parcells told his SB winning teams ... "Nobody can ever say that you didn't win a Championship/Super Bowl."

And with 32 teams involved,  they are bloody hard to win.

A fantastic coaching performance. Credit to Pederson but also it seems like their OC and QB coach are all fantastic as well.

I think it takes all those minds to come up and defeat the greatest coach and particularly the greatest defensive coach of all time with a back up QB. After watch the 2 Bill's last night the game reminds me of Parcells/Belichick Giant's team beating the heavily favoured Buffalo team in the 90's but in reverse.

Belichick came up with the game plan to beat the Bills explosive offense. Today, the Eagles came up with the game plan to beat the Pats defense. Frank Reich was the back up QB for Buffalo back then and was the OC for the Eagles today.

That Pats front 7 is pretty light on for talent but the Eagles had to throw and challenge a very good secondary. I really thought Philly's only chance was to run the ball and shorten the game and get sacks and take aways on defense. The missed FG is in many ways a take away and obviously they had the huge sack and fumble recovery, but you're right, the Pats win almost any time with the numbers they put up on offense.

So with just over 2 minutes to go and the Pats have the ball ready for a final drive ... 5 points down and who wasn't thinking that New England were going to march down and win the game?  I know I was.

And then 'It' happened ... the sack/fumble which ends up with the Eagles scoring a field goal and with it, an 8 point lead.  But it still wasn't over because this is the New England Patriots and they are never beaten.

That final 'Hail-Mary' was very nearly caught - they get that and the 2 point conversion is a soda and it's a tied game.  And who wins in overtime?

It's was a Super Bowl to be remembered and the Eagles had to play an incredible offensive game to win it.  It's just an amazing sport in terms of all the permutations.

I was thinking if the Eagles couldn't get a stop before they got to half way and/or 1 minute of game time left they'd may as well let Brady score a TD as quick as possible and then get the ball back themselves for a tying or winning FG.

Shows how good the Pats are that I was ready to skip the 'they will score and win' stage and go straight to 'the Eagles need to go outside the box here' stage.

Yep,  that's how good they are.

Dappa picked this type of scoreline but I couldn't see it ... both teams came into the game with renowned defenses.  In the recent past at least.

That sack/fumble was the only sack of the entire game ... and Brandon Graham had the wherewithal to get a hand in there and strip the ball.

There were other huge moments in the game but it's those telling moments at the end of these types of games that gets remembered.

The other big story was the Pats not starting Malcolm Butler as a CB - his replacement Eric Dunn was apparently targeted and as a result,  often beaten in one-on-ones.  Did Belichick make a fatal error?  Bill doesn't make errors does he?

Gratz @Dappa Dan

My mate was in tears and ordering a Foles Super Bowl top as the game ended ?

what a cracking game, for once I think the big call of the game went the Eagles way... vs the Pats That is unheard of!

Ertz I thought was def a runner, the other one I did not think it would stand, he bobbles that with his foot out, but fucke the Pats, they have had enough over the years.

Greatplay calling and the Foles TD was insane.

Fisher is probably working on his story of how he made Foles a SB winning QB.

Lap it up Dappa, I won money as I tipped the Eagles 7-12 points! Huzzah!

Belichick made one great adjustment moving Gilmore on to Jeffery. But should he have started on him?

Otherwise I was surprised he couldn't match up the rest of the Defense. That said, it was a lot of Ertz and the big plays from Clement.

Possibly the problem was the Eagles had the weapons and run game. If they played Dime defense to get all the match ups right the Eagles could run the ball on them.

Kansas City did it in week 1. Panthers with Newton's ability to run or throw caused them issues. Pittsburgh kind of did it later and should've scored at least 7 points more! The Dolphins even did it in December. Very easy to say after the fact but the reality might've been that the Pats just didn't play a very good schedule of teams this year.

The Belichick theory of take away your strengths and beat you because you 'can't play left handed' works very well against teams with more weaknesses than his defense has. Doesn't work as well when you're playing a team with an excellent spread of attacking options up against your own weaknesses in the front 7.

The whole New England set-up moving forward is fascinating.  I'm not sure that there's another job elsewhere for Belichick and I doubt he'd retire from football completely.  He may entertain the thought of taking another role like Coughlin has.

What we do know is that the Pats haven't got a replacement for Brady in place and they are about to lose their offensive & defensive coordinators.  Trading Garoppolo still seems like a questionable move even taking into account how well Brady is playing.  However,  teams always find it difficult to pay an in-demand 2nd string QB enough money.

Belichick almost certainly stays but it could be an uneasy alliance.

Yeah, he's on the move for sure. Obviously he could stay, but word is Wentz is going to make it for week 1. He has to get a job. It'll be interesting to see how they treat him. Highest bidder, or do they let him name his price as a free agent. Or engineer a deal to the club he wants to go to for the best money and situation. Simply HAS to be a starter next year.

EAGLES BAYBEEE!

I haven't shown my hand much but have been an Eagles fan since 1994 when Randall Cunningham was QB and Herschel Walker was RB.

I kept an eye on them during the Donovan McNabb/Andy Reid era but only fully got back on  board this year.

Foles has to be the best story of the year. My heart sank when Wentz went down but how wrong I was.

It's hard to believe that Foles might have played his last game for the Eagles but there's a good chance that might happen.  Again,  it's strictly business.

If Foles is offered a 4 year deal of 60-70 million elsewhere with 40 million of it guaranteed then he has to take it as opposed to a much lesser deal that the Eagles could offer.  It's a very strange situation but also a very real one.

But it won't tear apart the fan base as even the most fervent of fans know how the whole system works.

Welcome to the thread Col ... and congrats as well.  I'm a great believer in recognising the past so this is Title no.4 for Philadelphia.  As you're no doubt well aware,  the Eagles were NFL Champs in '48,  '49 & '60 before the Championship game was ever called the Super Bowl.

Those who disagree are simply ignoring the rich history of the NFL.  For instance, the NFL had it's first draft in 1936.  Imagine being plucked from some obscure University and having to relocate across the other side of the US in 1936.

Truish @Macca but it's kind of similar to the dilemma we Dees fans face. We have had success and it shouldn't be discounted, but it's hard to appreciate it when the highlights are all in black and white.

They actually played in coloured clothing back in the day - hard to believe but it's true.  Navy Blue & Red I believe

I've only started to appreciate the Demons flags in the last 10-15 years or so.  Before that,  I couldn't relate to our previous success much at all.

This club we all support here has a magnificent rich history and we've twice been an absolute powerhouse of the league.  Some of the more iconic names from the past are former Demons as well (Smith,  Barassi et al)

Looked at another way ... imagine if we'd only ever won 1 or 2 premierships in our history?  Or,  if we only count the AFL Flags we've never won a flag.  The VFL was stupendously huge long before the AFL was ever thought of.

I've also been heavily involved at local level for long periods of time and recognising the past is often mandatory ... past players are often involved for decades after they finish playing.  Honour boards are dotted around the rooms & Premiership reunions happen every other year etc etc.

Anyway,  as far as I'm concerned,  the Eagles just won their 4th Title :D

He's contracted to the Eagles for next year and they'd want a good backup for Wentz. The logical move might be for the Eagles to keep him until the trade deadline then sell him if Wentz is back at his best.

What can they get for him now? A 2nd or 3rd round pick? Pretty handy to have that come draft time.

Alex Smith already traded. Cousins and Foles available. Keenum/Bradford/Bridgewater situation in Minnesota. It's looking like a very interesting QB offseason.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
