Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Fair enough. ie the Scott brothers.

And yeah. On the plus side Hundley's been there, what, 3 years? McCarthy at least knows his man. And his man knows the playbook. Romo would have been terrific fun... but Hundley is your best chance.

Romo or the Kap were never really in the picture ... one pundit was quoted as saying that it takes 3 years to properly learn the McCarthy playbook (as a QB)

However,  I often struggle with those sorts of comments as our game plan often revolves around Rodgers throwing the ball through the eye of a needle to a well-covered WR.  Apart from that, he occasionally hands it off to a RB.  And we're going to ask Hundley to do the same?

Hundley has a gigantic job ahead of him and I wish him all the luck in the world - he's going to need it.  In terms of degree of difficulty,  Hundley has just been handed a very tough assignment.

Your former coach (Andy Reid) is handling Alex Smith to a nicety ... now that is coaching.  Doesn't ask him to do too much and surrounds the bloke with all-around weapons.  I've always been a fan of Reid.

Everyone's worried about what it'll be like when the D start dominating. But the real news is that the offense and Goff/Gurley/McVay have created the buzz. Get used to it for the next 12-15 games. I love watching Rams right now, but don't get me wrong, I want Eagles to beat them. I keep secretly hoping pressure on Goff will make him wobble a bit, but he's getting it out so fast.

Looking forward to 7 weeks from now... How has Rams OL been? Them vs Eagles DL...

OL has been pretty bloody good which is a change. The new guys have protected Goff quite well, not only in blocking but opening lanes for Gurley so there is less rushing at Goff.

Kupp and Woods have been huge and whilst Watkins hasn’t caught much nor been targeted he is copping double coverage all the time. That will go to Kupp soon, what a rookie year he is having.

Joyner should be back this week, we have Cards at home then away to Giants who found some form. Could not believe they beat Denver there and Indy today blew it big time. Doyle should never be targeted as a receiver again.

Bad luck on Rodgers Macca, big loss.

Sure has. But he's a trenches coach. Always has been. Get the big uglies organised and the rest will follow. Only problem with that is there's a reason he's never won a big one despite being successful.

Back on Hundley, I look at a guy like Watson as a good marker. Doesn't play anything like the QBs that were starters ahead of him, but the coach adapted quickly. His line isn't anything to write home about, but he gets the job done. And I don't think it's right to say that Texas' receivers are better than GBs. Aside from Hopkins, they're not superstars. Where it falls down is that they have a pretty damn good run game with Foreman and Miller. I'm interested to see what GB do with Monty, who's shown plenty over the last couple of seasons, and Jones who's performed well in patches. The Giants lost 5 in a row, then decide to lean on the run game with a couple of duds... and look what happened there. It's all on McCarthy now as you say.

Here's another fun stat. Since 1992 (??!!) Green Bay have played 9 games with a quarterback not named Favre or Rodgers. That's insane. Just imagine how many QBs Browns have had in that time.

Yeah sweet. Gurley's uptick has been startling.

The NFC is an absolute crap-shoot now ... there's any number of teams who could win any of the 4 divisions.  In the South,  there's 2 or 3 teams.  In the North there's 2 or 3.  In the West there's probably only 2 in contention and in the East,  the Eagles are in the box seat but it's not done yet.  Dallas will start winning eventually and the Giants can play spoiler.

The last time Rodgers did his collarbone the other 3 teams in the North couldn't take advantage and win enough games ... 9 wins might suffice but the Packers are up against it.  If Rodgers can get back though ...

The Saints are -4.5 favourites at Lambeau in the early odds and they might get on a roll ...and the Panthers are lurking.  That division could get really tight.  @ New England this week will be tough for the Falcons.

Leaderboard in the comp

4 - Dappa Dan

3 - JV7,  Clintosaurus

1 - Go the Biff,  Macca

0 - The usual suspects

A big 2 points on offer this week - it's time to make a move ...

You make some very valid points.

I'm coming to terms with it all re the Packers but this upcoming game against the Saints might give us an insight into the short-term future of the team.

If McCarthy can somehow eke out a win first up with Hundley as the starter,  then I may entertain the thought of at least a 9 win season.  Lose it and we then front up to a Detroit team who will really fancy their chances (that game is at Lambeau as well)  1 win (however small) can make a load of difference.

Oh,  and your thread is up to 200 pages.  That's quite an achievement Dappa considering the site is largely devoted to our beloved Demons.

Oh man I forgot. I was on the countdown a week ago, and it slipped my mind. Well done NFL fans, and Macca for the tipping comp that's responsible for about 170 of the 200.

And yeah, I'm not saying it's all rosy. I just think wait and see. Funny things happen when the seconds come in sometimes. This is the first time in ever that Nelson, Adams, Ha Ha, and all their other good players can feel like the most important player on the team.

I would have thought that by now we'd have 15-20 regular contributors on the thread but there's still time.

Quite honestly,  I really only pushed along the tipping comp as a way of attracting more people here ... it sort of works in a sense but the principle reason I'm here is to discuss all things NFL.

I neglected to mention the AFC divisions in that earlier post but it's hard to see the Pats not winning the East even though they haven't hit their straps yet.  KC are also favoured to win the West but Denver may push them.  With Carr back the Raiders might get on a roll.

The South is definitely up for grabs (is Luck back soon?) whilst the North will probably come down to the Steelers or the Ravens.

It could be one of those seasons like we've just had with the last 2 years of the AFL ... get hot at the right time and any number of teams can win it.

Pretty sure NFL live did a stat and browns had had 31. Not sure it went back as far as 92 tho.

Monday nights game is the one I’m super keen to watch.

I was worried about our game being in London and giving away home field, but we are 1-2 in LA and 3-0 on the road...

go figure...

I read a stat somewhere that can't be right. Something like 60% winning away percentage for all teams.

45 Home wins, 46 away wins

Is what  I counted.

Wow. I wonder what it was a week ago? Maybe that's what I was looking at.

That's a crazy stat. What's weirder is it might be the only sport that is absolutely certain to have a tangible home ground advantage you can use that the other team can't.

This game pits one of the NFL's oldest teams (Cardinals, NFL's oldest roster) against one of its youngest (Rams, 3rd-youngest roster). In fact, the Cardinals have an NFL-high 10 players older than Rams head coach Sean McVay, including QB Carson Palmer (37), WR Larry Fitzgerald (34), and RB Adrian Peterson (32).

From NFL.com... Brilliant. lol

Yeah you just don't see that. I thought it was bad until I realised he ran all the way from the bench. Luckily Richard is doing ok so far. Keep scoring Oakland, make a game of it.

Both QBs 200 yards passing in a half.

Yeah super dumb by Lynch. Such a great offensive game.

Neither D, seems to be playing bad it’s just some crazy long passes.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
