Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I really enjoyed the likes of:

Craig Smoker

Leigh Newton

Allan Jakovich

Matthew Collins

Darren Cuthbertson

Andrew Obst

Luke Sullivan

Rod Grinter

Marcus Seecamp

Sean Charles (was dynamite)

Andy "Chopper" Lovell

Remember Jay Viney? What about Brian Stynes? :)

Martin Pike before he made the trip north to QLD

Darren Bennett (boy could he kick a footy)

Am I showing my age? Not really, I'm under 29 mind you, just passionate about my boys. ;)

Does anyone remember Johnnie Howatt?

Didn't he subsequently ply his wares at Richmond?

Biffinator.

I remember him and his ears, pretty sure he went to the Tiggers with Northey.

Not sure if this name has been mentioned but David Schwartz was talking about Tom Cavanagh (not sure on spelling), who was Brent Crosswell's son. Schwarter said he was freakishly talented but had some serious injuries which cut short his career.

GOLD! I remember those monsters too!!!!!

Not in "Strawbs" O'Dwyer's (pre-trim) league. I suppose the poor fella copped all the usual "Dumbo" and "taxi doors open" sledges. This is probably why Jeff White had his trimmed down.

How about Ted & John Fidge - Big wraps on both but neither delivered long term.

There was a guy we picked up from the Bulldogs late 80's. had a couple of big games then dissappeared.

I cant remember his name - Aidrian Campbell maybe? Wore No. 1

& of course Rocket Rod Owen - Played some decent footy for half a season early 90's b4 wrecking his knee.

Gee there are some major disappointments mentioned in these posts but Darren Cuthbertson is the one that really hurts. He was brought through the system after being zoned from Epping in a manner which suggested the Club saw him as a future star.He had a full season in the Twos and I recall him kicking 4 goals in a quarter in a final against Carlton reserves. He exploded on to the senior scene with 17 goals in 3 games including a b on g against Collingwood and a match winning 5 goals against Brisbane at the G.Then nothing;nothing at all. He had a short spell at Fitzroy and then returned to Epping.Robbie Walters kicked a couple of bags as a fast leading straight kicking full forward but his lack of size was always going to count against him .As an aside, he claimed at his sentence for larceny as a servant from the bank that his financial woes were caused by being delisted by Melbourne. So we get blamed for everything. The Cockatoo -Colins btothers were not disappointing because neither ever looked any good.A bit like the Rugolo brothers. The Cockies show how fortunate we are to have CAC and why Richard Griffiths is languishing with the QAFL

Wasn't Walters picked up by Collingwood after he was delisted by MFC? Was his claim that we payed him far in excess of what Collingwood did? I'm pretty sure that his brush with the law came after he was delisted by the filth.

By the way, I forgot to mention: Shaun Smith and Sean Wight.

Sorry mate you have really lost me now. Both those guys were fantastic, Wight for a number of years, a great brave FB. And Smith we picked up at a mature age and he gave us sensational service in a number of positions with better and more experienced players such as Shwarta and Lyon constantly injured

Charles ---Definitely not as good as Davey though.

Sean Charles was awsome when up and going. Physically strong and fast. Not afraid of anybody.

Think he suffered from osteoporosis, which resulted in multiple breakages of the wrist. Nasty. Bloody brave to play on with that arm guard with us then Carlton a year later.

Sean and Jeff Farmer were tandem teamed at full forward by Balme for some time, working from the square. A dismal failure.

I think I recall a final against Carlton where Sean Charles destroyed them almost single handed, he then repeated the dose a year later.

Reckon that Sean Charles also kicked 18 goals for a Sunraysia representative team a few years back. Not bad for an old man.

Does anyone remember a player by the name of David Hone, who played as an amateur ( or came from the amateurs ) and who was a brilliant and courageous standout immediately at centre half back, but then disappeared, virtually overnight ,possibly to continue his studies?

I do remember him but that season is more than forgetable,I think we only won 3 games in 1969 and took out the wooden spoon.

anyone remember Trevor Spencer or Andy Goodwin donning the red and Blue?

Trevor Spencer always gave the impression he had talent ...... but that was about it as far as results went. He just looked like he could take a game by the throat but never did.

Andy Goodwin is still going around - captain-coach of Mooroolbark where he is much loved but equally despised by most other clubs in his division of the EFL. Andy still has the occasional visit to the tribunal but I think his reputation is worse than his record. I believe he recently played in a Richmond corporate game where ex-players play alongside some of the club's sponsors. It's supposed to be a light-hearted exercise but apparently Goodwin's competitive instincts were still well-honed.

You have to admire Goodwin - never the most talented of players but gave everything he had whenever he went out to represent his club albeit occasionally going over the edge. If I recall correctly, he suffers from the additional handicap of being a Pom.

While we're playing this game mickey17seddon, do you remember Big Darryl Cox ? Another "couldabeen" we picked up from Fitzroy.

sadly enough I do remember Darryl Cox, got a few games towards the end of 84 when Barass was running out of big men and ideas. Can remember him wrestling with and niggling opponents but dont remember him getting a kick

Quote "Old Man Rivers"

"We had an aboriginal kid in the 70's that promised the world - Colin somebody or that may have been

his surname."

Colin Graham was a very talented aboriginal left-footer. I saw him in Adelaide in the rooms before the game v. the Crows in 2004,wishing "Flash" all the best. Presumably he still has an interest in the Demons, but lives over there. He'd been in a "good paddock"!

He played 35 games for the Demons from '75 to '78 after beig recruited from Kyabram(originally from Penola).

I have wondered for over 40 years what had happened to Glen Swann, mainly because I saw him play just one game but it was one of the most impressive I have ever seen (was it his debut?). Have asked around and checked the web over the years but no luck - great to see discussion of him and others on this message board.

As David Cordner was described previously, Swann was also a "blue blood blonder hair 6'4" adonis", whom I saw play at the MCG in 1973 and boot 8 goals. Moreover, I recall a number of them being torpedoes from 60-70 yards from near the boundary. Quite tall for those days and wonderfully fast and agile and a strong mark plus a monster kick. I assumed he must have gone off to the bush because there seemed no limit to his potential but perhaps he did just fizzle out.

Did anyone else witness his golden day at the 'G and those torps?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
