I actually could see him as a very attractive pick up for a team such as the Gold Coast, he would provide them with a decent hit up and wouldn't cost them much. Also a team like GC really needs a good leader and that is what Miller is, someone who will just try his guts out. I also think that the move would do him so good, might reshake his career a little bit.

If Clayton was looking at our list trying to decide who to poach, Miller is one of the last he'd look at.

He's the guy you'd take if there's nothing else left, because at least he might show a bit of leadership to the kids.

I don't think GC will have to 'poach' Miller for him to go up there. They will know full well we have no intention of re-signing him and they needn't waste their 'bullet' in poaching him from our list in the event there is another player they have interest in securing.

I don't agree with that. Dunn is preferred, but not exactly in favour at the moment. Watts is playing only his first for the year, all it would take would be a few weeks of average footy and he'd be dropped again. Morton would be ahead, but not necessarily playing forward, and even if he does he wouldn't play the sam role as Miller, as he's about the same size as one of Miller's thighs. Newton isn't ahead of him. I'm ahead of Newton.

I was actually surprised he wasn't brought up this week. Don't get me wrong, I love that Jack is playing, but Miller is a senior player with plenty of experience. If there's a clutch game in a small venue against a tough opponent (Sydney at SCG, maybe? something like that...) then he would get a look in. Like Jack al he'd need to do is put in a good run in the VFL.

Don't get me wrong, I find it hard to fit him in our best 22... but in a full season your best 22 are almost never going to play together for very long. Form/injury/soreness all play a factor, and as the season wears on Miller's strengths will outweigh his weaknesses eventually.

I don't really agree. If making finals in 2010 was our primary objective then yes, but bigger picture, play a developing kid before Miller.

I would have loved to have seen Miller make it. I made plenty of excuses for why he wasn't cutting it - EG Daniher moving him forward and back and not letting him settle into his "natural" position (which for me was CHF - plenty will disagree)etc etc. At the end of it all, I think he's just one of football's conundrums; plenty of talent but unable to fully execute it.

I don't think GC will want him for that reason.

PettErd injury prone??? The guy has been very unlucky on two occasions (collapsed lung and now dislocated shoulder). It is not as if he is suffering from chronic hamstring injuries or a shoulder that pops out every other day...and yes, I do realise he had shoulder issues two weeks running, but I am inclined to think that the first injury (hyper-extension?) probably made the second more likely.

We should be trying our hardest to get his signature asap.

I would suggest that it is Bate who holds Millers position in the team at the moment, strong lead/mark, with either a handball to a runner or turn and long kick into forward line. Watts may play a similar role with more focus on receiving marks from midfield after turning and running back towards goal. Both Bate and Watts are better shots on goal which to my mind is Millers main fault. I'd suggest he could resurrect his career by moving to the backline (i.e tarrant)... Sad to see any MFC player struggling.

Personally, I see Colin as a midfielder, who can pinch hit forward. He's generally tough over the ball, beautiful kick, good decision maker etc. Rest him up forward, but don't regularly start him forward, IMO. He certainly has an ability to play forward for an entire game, but with the forward depth that we've arguably built (none of them can get out on the park together though), he's a midfielder for mine. When Tapscott comes on and Morton, there will be a real competition for spots. We're starting to see it already.

Id be highly surprised if someone wasnt having a look at Miller. If they've been to Casey they will know that he isnt a complete hack but would understand why he isnt getting a game for us.

The question is will we get any value? The other clubs would be well aware that we are unlikely to resign him (and you have to wonder if he would even want to). Brad's manager MUST be trying to shop him around to Hawks or GC as its the best option to lengthen his career, but why on earth would they give us anything for him? just wait until he's delisted....

I disagree with you on this one. Miller would be valuable to a young developing team like the gold coast because he can play at both ends of the ground. He has been reasonably effective up back and forward. Remember that game he closed down Barry Hall when we were actually challenging for the finals. He's also a big body (which they'll need) and can be a leader in the club. He's not going to be the type of player they'd throw stupid amounts of money at, but he'd be a valuable pick up for a team like the Gold Coast. Hell they picked up Daniel Harris from North Melb and he was pretty much their version of miller anyway.

I have no problem with that. I don't happen to agree, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to suggest Miller's in trouble.

The way I see it, our forward line is the least settled, and the least talented of the three sections of the field. Looking a our list of defenders and midfielders... that's a tough list to crack, as Buckley and Valenti would attest. But our forward line? We have an ok starting 3 (or 6) if we're injury free... Bate, Jurrah, Watts, Sylvia, Petterd, Green... Reads pretty well to me. But let's be honest, they're not ALL going to play well at the same time, and not ALL will remain injury free for 22 rounds. What then? After those six names, there's a list of bit-part, small forward-cum-midfielders, resting ruckmen, goalkicking mids...

Part of the reason our defence is so good is that we have an awesome starting big 3... Warnock, Frawey and one of Rivers and Garland. The point being there's plenty of quality in the cupboard there. Likewise in the midfield (Ruck notwithstanding).

For this reason, and due to the fact Miller seems to be loved by the coaching panel for his off-field leadership, I feel like when he inevitably plays again this year, if he goes ok, he'll be retained. Which, given our midfield, will be a lot easier for him to do.

Not sure he'll be attractive to GC though. Good luck to them if he is...

If you were Scott Clayton - list manager at the Gold Coast, you would have a mandate to build a list from scratch. Given plenty of $$ to put a credible list together that will grow within 3-4 years to have a shot at a Premiership (arguable). Scott Clayton would not see Brad Miller as part of that group. He has much better fish to fry.
