Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I will admit to not knowing anything about Scully and I can only go from the limited vision I have seen, but is his greatness a Forumulated Opinion or is it genuine?

Method:

Scully 7mins 29 secs footage

Trengrove 4mins 51 secs footage

Conclusion:

Scully enjoys more pill than Trengrove.

Formulated enough for u?

Scully may well be a ball magnet, but from that footage his foot skills were very poor. He hit one target, and that was a shot for goal. I haven't seen any other footage, so I'm not saying he's a bad kick of the footy, just that in this particular footage he does not demonstrate great foot skills. His hands were top notch though. I would like an opinion from someone who has seen a bit more of him as to how good or bad his kicking is. If he has just average foots kills, I can't get that excited, as we already have too many players on our list with this deficiency.

15.4 beep test for Trengove and Scully runs a 9.27min 3 km run

I hope people can appreciate how amazing those times and results are. Add in Cale Morton and Jack Grimes who can do a 15 + beep test as well and it's getting exciting. I think last years best scores in the draft camp for the beep test was 14.6 and for the 3km run was 10.20 min or close to it.

Watching that video Scully had a few clangers and not to many effective kicks going inside 50. Just being picky though :P

Yea ive seen him play school footy, his skills can be absolutely superb one kick from a clearance i remember was about 2 mtrs of the ground i was soo fast and strait it nearly knocked the kid of his feet.

During the game his disposal was fine if not really good.

It should be noted he received a knock early that day, and played the game out with his nose taped to stop bleeding, similar to Judd early his year. It effected his breathing and probably effected his game.

Usually his kicking is good. He is equally capable on both feet, and has good penetration. He's no Gilbee, Hodge etc, but he is more than capable and would be ranked towards the top end of prospective draftees.

His handball is the best I've ever seen at that level. It's Simon Back-like.

His reflexes are amazing also, I'd compare them to Aaron Davey.

He's got good pace, and is a decent mark for his size. He will at worst be a good midfielder for us. He definitely has the potential to be a great player though (hence his #1 pick status :P).

The only thing you can really take from that video is how quick he moves and fires out handball's in contested situations. His kicking was no better or worse then the other young players. There was one mark he took which was strong but nothing special.

When your in a dark hole, light seems brighter than it actually is.

that's just a highlights reel from one game...all midfielders have bad disposals throughout the game and if they showed everysingle disposal of one particular person for an entire afl game, you might have a few doubts about their general disposal (besides davey round 1, 2 and 3 this year)...his work at the stoppages and his in close handballs seem first rate.

In his defence, it looks like he never really got free... Lots of times in the first minutes he was just under the pump. His judgement may have been a bit off with the bloody great bandage on his face.

In general I don't know what everyone's whinging about. I was barring up watching those two vids.

They just ooze class. WHat Scully lacks by foot, Trengove makes up for. That's one of the prettier looking kicks I've seen in a while. So clean, perfect ball drop, lightning-quick decision making. You can see why people were saying he might knock off Scully.

As for Tom, his hands are unbelievable. He'll fit in beautifully at MFC. Though it may be interesting watching him develop. If he's as up-and-under as he was in that vid... and if he looks for the handball option first before kicking, it may end up limiting his super-stardom. Don't get me wrong, as long as he brings players like Blease and Morton into the action, I'm fine with it.

This is all confirms what I was already thinking about Trengove, incredibly talented midfielder with a hard edge, great tackling and bumping, he will play round 1 for sure. He looks to be the best ready-made senior player of this year's draft; the Daniel Rich so to speak. I really hope we use that second pick on him.

I went to that game and my opinion at the game vs in the youtube clip was somewhat different.

At the game Scully was far more impressive than in the video, amazing endurance and pace. And trengove's clip was far better than I remember him in the game.

Looking forward to the NAB cup.

Exactly. This kid is superb. Plays inside and out, and when you get your own pill in tight like he does, the right choice is to handball to a runner with eyes up. But he kicks when he should, and kicks well. And covers the ground like a Kenyan. Get excited.

I think what's lost when watching a youtube highlights package, is how much ground Scully covers, how incredibly quickly he does it and how he just goes and goes and goes and goes.

You need to also bear in mind his nose was broken at the start of that game and that his team was getting smashed all over the park by SA - he was one of the few who could hold their head high.

Trengove looked nice, great overhead, semi-decent decision maker, kicks were relatively effective... not sure about the speed though.

But overall a nice package. Nothing I'd rave too hard about, but still clearly 2nd in my mind.

Trengove seems better balanced with poise.. Scully has a bit of "hard nut "about him. Think they might complement each other quite nicely whilst adding to what we already have. Jack needs a bit less of the up and under passing technique. Scully very..VERY quick of hand.

What a shame to have to pick between...wait... WE DONT !!!!!! :D :D

I prefer this youtube of Scully from last year's TAC GF.

As others have said, you really need to see a player live to appreciate their attributes. Scully broke his nose in the first minute of play. He couldn't breathe properly with congealed blood and had watery eyes, but went on to gather 29 disposals, even with a heavy tag. His kicking is good on either side, but it's his clearance work and hands that set him apart. His hands are phenomenal and he just keeps getting to contest after contest. He also has excellent pace. He'll be a star.

Thanks for posting this clip - and thanks mousey too.

Agree, Scully was clearly not right after the incident early in the Vic Metro v SA game. How ironic that it was Trengove who pushed Scully to ground in the opening minutes that caused his broken nose. Now we look as though we might be drafting both. Agree with your summation of Scully.. again.

Trengove has terrific poise. Playing well at Sturt which goes well for his development and preparation for AFL level. Scully will fit right in.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
